OK, I bought the '99 GST knowing there was a tranny problem. Got into it and found the diff is trashed with several broken teeth. Since it decided to expel the teeth threw the bell housing I bought a good used F5M33 out of Florida and had it shipped in which I will pick up tomorrow. I plan to crack the case and go threw it and also put an aftermarket LSD in it. I dug threw past threads and compared Wavetrac, Kaaz, Quaife, and OBX. I understand Quaife is sort of a drop in and go. I also read that although OBX says it is a drop and go it really is not. How much customization does an OBX LSD require? I got to come clean that price is a factor since the OBX is half the Quaife but if the aggravation is great enough that it is not worth trying to save the extra $500 I will just bite the bullet and save myself the headache.

Would rather not go that way my friend, plus if the stock Diff exploded to begin with I do not see how welding it will prevent this from happening again. I would like to go aftermarket for a Diff that is a bit more beefy but have a budget for this build. Although we all know how well these builds stick to a budget, I am trying to gather enough info to make spending the money for the Quaife a.....justified expense.

I just can't wrap my head around how that diff exploded when it's not even really making that much power. I know from my time in this community that quaife is probably the best you can buy. I'll be watching this thread to see what others have to say as I'm curious as well

The motor has some build to it so it is producing more than the stock HP....put that into the hands of a 20 year old that is trying to impress his friends by smoking the tire on a pothole filled road and above you see the product.

I have a quiafe and love it in my gst. Launch that sucker around 5250-6000k and never had a issue. Well besides breaking a few axles before I got my race set from Terhune. ;) Welding is usually done for the center diff of a awd. This guy has a fwd and is better off with a lsd. I would say wavetrac, kazz or quiafe would be the only option if you want it to last.

Yeah...that is what I am kinda leaning towards.....I was just wondering about the OBX mods that are required and if anyone actually can run an OBX with a 6k launch and have it hold up consistently.
