Spring Lake, Michigan
So for the past few weeks I've been wrestling with a boost leak. Lack of spare time and warm weather has made it so I can't do an actual BLT in my garage. Instead, I thought I had traced it down to an old ring failure in my blow off valve. I RTV'D the cap out of it (I know, "why not just get another one ring?" It's the KHS SSQV BOV and those Damm c clips are a pain in the ass to get off) and sealed everything back up tightened it back down into my hoses and everything and my car still won't go much past 5psi. Won't even let me go faster than 65 or so most morning.
Could there be any reason I sprung a boost leak? Oil change? Disconnected a hose? Not enough blinker fluid?
Any suggestions on what to do next/ short of a BLT?

I realize now after posting this there are many a grammatical error as well as spelling mistakes.
O ring.
Hks.
Cap-crap.
I'm sure you got the gist.

I know with my SSQV, it was particularly difficult to get the c-clip to seat correctly. I'd verify the c-clip is installed with the chamfer facing up, and is fully seated in it's groove.
Short of doing a boost leak test, I think you might be out of luck. You could possibly smoke test your intake, but I can't vouch for the effectiveness of that test for your application.

I'm going to try a boost leak test this weekend. Although I'm not sure what else it could be. It was running fine up until I changed my oil. Never had an issue since I got it (this will be my 7th month with it) and I just swapped out spark plugs, wires and MAF sensor. No rough idles or anything.

I had a hks bov that I could not get to sit properly. I got a new o ring and a new c clip and even using a good snap ring tool I could never get that clip to sit where a leak was not happening. I swapped it for a tial and will never go back. I spent many hours attempting to get rid of the hks to not leak and no matter what I would do would work.

link?

Why not use a crushed 1g BOV?
I'm running 36 lbs+ on a HX40 and it works just fine.

Even the evo 8 bov which are a direct fit work great too. For me most my boost leaks happen cuz my hose clamps keep loosening, need to upgrade them to T-clamps LOL but check your hoses (by moving them or pulling them apart) if they move a lot or pull of u know thats where u leaking da boost

Last time I had a severe boost leak that involved a completely blown out coupler I was still able to drive down the highway at 75 mph. The blt test is a great starting point but I don't know that would cause such a severe limit on speed.

Did you perhaps leave something covering the air filter during your oil change. Like a shop towel or rag?

So i finally, as of yesterday, fixed my issue! my current BOV (the HKS SSQV3) was forced into the intake pipe when i had got the car. Apperently over time and lack of (on my part) knowledge of how it fit into the pipe, it had split the side walls and let a little bit of boost escape under pressure. Couldnt notice it at a stand still but i had a buddy give me a few new parts and i went and bought T clamps to keep everything together. Upon installing the new intake pipe, i noticed the end that fits onto the inter cooler and "buckled" so to speak and was also leaking air. Took an entire afternoon to find the guy, buy the parts, fit them, fail, re fit, modify and finally, finish my beer. Thank you all for the help! Luna is back up and running how she used to!
