So finally after I got 1000 miles on my rebuilt motor I'm ready to start tuning.
I'm running an evo 8 fuel pump, 550's, small 16g, supra smic and a 2.5" exhaust with evo III mani and o2 housing.

Using Greddy Emanage Ultimate to tune with and evoscan to log. I had a functioning wideband up until about 6 weeks ago. I set the boost to 14 psi and set the emanage so the car was safely rich.

The evoscan lets me look at a knock sum. My first runs showed up as 0, after leaning it out a few times and logging runs I started getting 1 or 2 show up. Then 4 and 5 showed up for a bit from 5500-6500 rpm but was fine everywhere else. I richened it up a bit there and they came back to 0.

My question is should I aim for 0 and nothing else or is 1-2 OK?

Thanks,
Bryan

I agree with zero counts. I believe you can get away with three to four counts. The bad thing is that with any knock the computer is pulling timing. A 2g stock timing map is crap. You should really shoot for zero knock.

I tune for zero knock.

On very cold nights (it runs a little leaner), i will get 0.4-1.0 if i do multiple back to back pulls. That's where i like to be for my daily driver.

I would never tune a street car to have any knock on a regular basis.

...A 2g stock timing map is crap....

Actually, the 2G timing map is pretty good right out of the box for a basic tune. The 1G map however is WAY to aggressive for most modded cars...which is why one of the first things us 1G guys do is load up a 2G timing map and start from there. :)

You want to shoot for zero knock, but getting there depends on a crapload of factors. You can probably get away with 2-3 counts every now and then, but you start losing your safety factor pretty quickly. With the mods you have and only running 14 psi, I would tune for zero counts and be safe with a fun car. There is no point in pushing it to the limit unless you are searching for every last drop of power for some reason.

I'm just looking to get the hang of things at this point. I would like to push it at 18psi at some point. Timing was never pulled even at the 5 counts of knock.

This was timing from 4400-7300 rpmish.
