Had a bad experience with a parts store starter on another platform... The pickings are pretty slim, here's what I am looking at locally, and if none are any good, Which ones from rock auto are worth the wait?

My starter is absolutely dead. Started it in gear... Doh! Didn't work after that.

Advance auto:
CARQUEST Starter - Remanufactured 75.99+29.00
Part No. 16939S

Autozone:
Duralast premium reman 71.99+29.00
Part Number: 16869

Rockauto:
BOSCH SR298N Starter (New) 103.99
ACDELCO 3371079 {#88877178} Professional 100.79
REMY 99404 Remy Gold 88.79

TYC116939{#MD099667, MD162839} OE manufacturer? 60.79

Any input/success story is appreciated.

but TYC listing shows as the OE manufacturer? Any pics of the TYC next to the old OEM starter?

With routine maintenance parts I always go with OEM....besides the battery. Though I've heard the stock alternator is a little weak but haven't researched it personally but you know where to look of you feel curious ;)

Did you have the starter tested? Sometimes the black plug in wire that slides onto the contact on the solenoid becomes extremely loose having you think the starter is bad. This was just last week. I took a pliers and squeezed the black plug the wire is connected to. Put it back on the contact. Was nice and firm. The 21 year old starter fired up as if she was brandnew!! Thanks to Keltalon who told me about this issue.

Why take it off? I would pull the plug while its on the car first and squeeze it then slip it back on the contact since it will be tight. If that does not work then I would take it off.

WOW. I did not think to check the fuse that the starter is on... Does attempting to start in gear blow a fuse?

Apparently it does. Damn I feel like an idiot. Anyone else done this so I don't have to feel so bad?
