ive been doing some research on some swaps i could do to my 97 rs to build a better boosted block and ive narrowed it down to either boosting the 420a on a totally built block and head running 8.8.1 or doing a 2.4 swap not doing a 4g63 swap and im not selling my car to get a gst or gsx any helpful advice from people who have done this before? anything helps i only have 80 k on my swapped 420 should i still bore.20 over

2.4L swap is not a straight forward bolt in affair. There is some work to be done. You can search 2gnt and neon forums for more info on the swap.

2.0 vs 2.4 comes down to your personal preference and what you will be doing with the car. There is a great post on here which talks about the various 4g63 displacements from 2.0 to 2.4. It's worth a read as it gives a lot of universal info and pros and cons of each set up.

Also don't buy into the myth that you need low compression pistons to turbo a 420a. As long as you have a solid way to tune it, high compression pistons are the way to go in my opinion. I run wiseco 10.5:1 in my turboed 420a. I'm glad I did since my low end is still has a good amount of torque. If you go the 2.4l route it may not be as big of a deal to have high compression Pistons for low end torque.

As for your cylinder bore. Personally I would bore it 20 over to make sure the cylinders are true and straight. A machine shop could inspect it and give you a definite answer on cylinder wear and where you stand within serviceable limits. I believe you will find that with 80,000 miles on the block, most shops will tell you to bore it out.

Do plenty of research. It's all out there and well documented for turboing a 420a. Don't cheap out on parts. Your better of spending your money on quality parts than on crap that needs to be replaced again.

I have been through mine quite a bit. If you check out my build thread you can get a good run down on parts. I did not cheap out and turboed mine the proper way with a way to tune it.

i know you would have to fabricate a mount and fabricate the oil pan for the 2.4 swap and as for the 420 i honestly dont mind a little less pull with low compression if it is more reliable how much boost are you pushing and how long have you been running it is it your daily? do you think i should build the head iif i stay with the 420 im leaning more towards my block now that im finding more ways to reliably boost it if i bore out to a 2.2 or 2.4 with low compression do you think it would still be daily driver worthy pushing maximum 20 pounds once in awhile
