1998 gst lots of mods but...
550cc
I have to have my safc turned all the way up to %30 just for car to idle and not run lean. I know with bigger injectors I should be in the negatives but car won't even run with settings even at zero.
Car also won't rev worth a dang up to around 2500 rpm. After that it seems to run good.any ideas?

Without the cable it is basically useless. V2 was easily counterfeited so if you don't have the cable ecmlink won't sell you one. (If I'm not mistaken) Although It will still save you some coin because you can upgrade the v2 to v3 for a lot cheaper than buying v3 outright.
I got the same surprise from my GVR4 I picked up not too long ago. Going to send it out for the v3 upgrade when I can spare the car being down for around a week.

Still good news though! but go easy on the car, without knowing the tune and set up it could spell disaster if you are not careful!

You can leave the safc in after you get Link up and going but I wouldn't personally as it only leaves room for more possible electrical issues and it won't do anything useful compared to logging with link.
Do u think it would be better to throw the black box from the 99 I just got in there until I get either blessed with a cable or upgrade to v3?
I can still use the wideband and safc do a little tuning right?

Without knowing the tune or the ability to modify it, it would be better in my mind to throw the blackbox in there and use the safc. But those 550s are going to be way to small to run the 20g to it's full potential. So again you will have to be cautious...

I read that and the wiki page. Looks like without the cable I'll have to pay full price for the v3
I didn't notice that, I sent Tom (owner of ecmlink) an email and it's not required for the 1g, it's a bummer if it won't work out. Maybe send him an email and see what he says... It's worth a shot and he usually responds pretty quick.

I'm gonna pull the injectors today and see what they are exactly. I do not believe they are only 550cc
Car has never ran lean or fuel cut under boost.

Check your plug wiring and injector firing order. 95-96 firing order is different than your car. I am not sure if the v2 dsmlink has the option of inverting the CAS siginal so it is possible the PO changed some wire/fire order to run the 95/96 ecu.

What in the world do I do about the turbo being too big?

When you plugged in black box did you keep the same injectors in it or change them out? What turbo are you trying to put on it?
Same injectors. Just wanted to put the black box on until I get a cable for v2. But when I try to start it with black box it does act like it's out of time. Wich the different fire order would explain. I think I'm gonna need to be more concerned with the turbo hitting the block with the stock manifold. And that is probably why I always had and exhaust leak from my tubular header.

Good news. Installed the black box and rewired the plug wires. Idles and runs smooth thru the entire rpm range. I'm now running negative settings on my safc like it should be.
Bad news the exhaust leak is worse now that I put the tubular manifold back on. And I notice the turbo is still hitting the banjo bolt on the block. Probably why is had a leak the whole time. Gonna work on the exhaust this week. And still need to find out what injectors I'm running. Kids came down this weekend so didn't have much free time till tonight.

You could possibly run a manifold spacer with some longer studs. Not sure how much room you have between the turbo and radiator/fans. It's been done, exhaust flanges are usually used for spacers...

Glad the wire swap got you up and running.

Depending on how much room you need you could probably do a combination of shaving down the banjo bolt and or taking a little material off the compressor housing...

Could be fuel cut, stock t25 turbo will hit it around 16ish psi. Not sure on the airflow of a 20g at 10psi vs t25 at 16psi but its possible dont hold me to it never dicked with a 20g.

Another more likely reason could be a boost leak. Do a blt with soapy water.

gonna check and see what injectors i have and do a boost leak test today.( hopefully if we dont get too busy at the shop)

Update!!!
Fixed my boost leak. Bolt missing from turbo only thing holding my waste gate Valve on was a tak weld LOL. Pressure was pouring out of that bolt hole.
So new issue. Car boost all the way to 20psi but only in 5 gear. 1gear only takes a couple of pounds and then it cuts out. 2nd takes a little more. 3rd takes a little more. Ect ect ect. And when rolling into the throttle slowly showing no boost it cuts out at about 5000rpm. But yet it still blows off boost!! So my boost gage has to be wrong. But also , why am I building boost and very closed throttle? I'm confused. Happier than yesterday but confused.

I know I have no boost leaks. Tested it today. Any advice. I have fuel turned up on the safc just to be safe. Still have not got to install the wideband. The exhaust guy at work has been busy. And my car won't make it up on his lift. Too steep. But we are gonna do it on the ground with jacks this week. But I'm showing rich when boosting so I know I'm not running lean

Once u get the wide band installed you'll see what kind of afr your running and tune off of that. U really need to see what injectors u have as that can cause all sorts of problems if using an safc. Safc is good for up to 650cc as suggested by some people here. Check your spark plugs and the gap. At ur boost level I would run bpr7es or br7es.

so i just pulled the injectors.... they are rc 550 ... that has to be too small for this big turbo!!!! is that why im cutting out!!! is there any way a 550 can keep up with what im running???
