Hey all,
Long time reader.... First time posting, looked all over google, as well as the DSM sites for a solution. This is the first time I cannot find an answer!

Finally made the plunge into DSM's about 4 months ago.... Got sucked into a 97 GS Manual. Then I found the rust.... way to much. So I sold it to a friend for a loss, but at least he knew what he was getting into. So then I found a local 97 GSX Manual that was perfect. very little strut tower rust, just needed some loving to get going.... Yeah, about that, the PO had covered the rust with body panels and what not. I will be the first one to say I am a noob, I know just enough to get myself into trouble..... soooo that car unfortunately made its way to a wrecking yard. I could literally push a screwdriver through the frame in most spots.

Then Waterlance from these forums came along.... I made the trip to Cali to pick up a rust free DSM! Woooooo! Yes head needs some love (I believe head gasket at this point, 0 compression in Cyl 1, 110 in Cyl 2, and 150 in the last 2) and yes it may be a FWD Auto.... Gimme AWD and Manual swap! but no rust dang nab it!

So anyways. I am attempting to figure out a way to remount my touchscreen radio in the HVAC location, (I am not able to see around shifter) and still retain control of the HVAC controls.... And maybe touch on the Head/HG issue....

Just curious before u do all that work have u looked at in the original location with the shifter in drive? I have an auto with a touchscreen as well and I can see it fine although using it I find using the wireless remote a whole lot easier. But if u are content on moving it up top you will need to fiberglass a new bezel and a little bit of bondo to make it look better. Mobile electronics is my daily grind I don't do much custom work anymore but I've had my experience doing it.

Yeah, I tried installing it in the factory location, and I found myself bobbing and weaving to see around the shifter. If I had a manual I doubt it would be as big of an issue but alas the Gods sent me an Auto. I have never done fiberglass before... just getting into the car world. Looking at a lot of work a head of me? I will post pics of what I have got going so far.
