When a caliper barely fits a wheel it should be fine for day to day use (purely street). Now take it to a track and the probability of the caliper hitting the wheel will increase due to thermal expansion of both the wheel and the caliper. I've seen it too often: "It clears by 3mm everywhere".... 5 laps later they're coming back with the screech from hell and a nice groove on the wheel inner drum where the caliper edges decided to imprint their legacy.

I'd take these factors into consideration when considering your brake setup vs wheel setup. It's sad to see brand new Enkei's, Volks, etc all grooved due to a fitment misjudgement.

I have the CTSv calipers and gramlights 57c 17x7.5ET40 and require 20mm spacers on top of the 5mm spacer that comes from strictly performance. They stick out about 1" with my coilovers set to 2.5" of fender gap and uncorrected camber. I am looking to see how much spoke/caliper clearance there is with evo 8 wheels and no spacers?

Thanks. I ended up just buying a used one to check. I never saw anyone post measurements in that thread of clearances so i'll see if I can post some if it will help anyone in thr future. The spoke design is the biggest benefit. My gramlights have 40mm offset but aren't even close.

That's the main reason (other than lightweight = win) I went with Kosei K6r's. The spoke design is very close to the Evo 8 Enkei wheels which are a recipe for good internal clearances. It would be devastating to buy a set of new wheels just to find out they don't fit.

Lol that's exactly what happened to me. Explaining to the wife why I need 8 wheels was the hardest part haha.

Eeeesh!... Hahaha! That wouldn't have gone well in my house either...

At least the rule of thumb is that flat spoke wheels on 17"s with x8 width and low offset 35 or less shoud fit but this is not 100% accurate in every scenario.

For Example:

Enkei RPF1's that are so popular these days have two spoke designs one pushed outward and one that concaves inward and is recessed with a lip:

17x8 - 17x8.5 with 35mm offset will clear (maybe need a small 3mm spacer) while 17x9 and higher with 35mm offset won't fit without almost a 20mm spacers due to the recessed spoke design. It's frustrating at the moment of deciding wheels and even more so if you are worried about the weight of the wheel. There are little options these days that fall inside all of these requirements at once: Cheap, Strong, Light.
