I need of a manual turbo ecu to complete my little build, i have an auto ecu in my manual tsi got rid 13g turbo,390 injrctors and thr auto fpr for 14b,450cc, and manual fpr. I can get a 91 non eprom vr4 ecu localy but was told i need 272 cams and to reset the biss screw to compensate for the vr4 higher idle. Is this an ecu i can drop in and have no problems? Researched but thsts all i csn find.
 
You sure it really a GVR4 ECU. To the best of my knowledge everyone of those were EPROM ECU's. So it sounds like things have been swapped around over time and you need to verify exactly what you're getting.
 
Agreed. If it's non EPROM it's not a vr4 ecu. I would verify exactly what board it is before swapping it in.

You don't need cams. The only real difference between the vr4 and 1g ecus are the idle, and slightly different maf scaling.
 
I've yet to see a real GVR4 non-EPROM ECU but I've seen plenty of GVR4 ECU cases with non-EPROM DSM ECU boards in them.

I wouldn't drive a 1G auto car around using a manual ECU without monitoring the AFR but a 1G running the turbo manual injectors and FPR with an auto ECU will run safely rich and less timing than the manual ECU. SO if the choice was between a known good turbo automatic ECU and an unknown one, you know which way I'd go until I could do better.
