Stumbled upon this sight in hopes of finding some experts that can help me out and give me some insight into what to look for/check and whats its like to own a 2g eclipse. As the title states I could possibly be the next owner of a 1998 GSX, that is if I bite the bullet and buy the car. Lets start off by saying that I'm not the most mechanically knowledgeable when it comes to cars with regards to how to take apart/replace or diagnosis issues doe to a clear lack of knowledge, but it hasn't and wont stop be from learning.

Anyways... What i'd hope to figure out is whats it's like to own a 2nd gen eclipse (current own a 3g gt). What i should look for when i go and take a look for at the car, what questions should I be asking, what should i be looking for? I know the basics like:
- Check for rust on the whole car top and bottom
- check fluids
- timing belt, water pump, etc

But is there anything else that I should be conscious of? I;ve linked the ad below with all teh information the current owner has provided. Thanks in advnace!

Depending on where the car has been, originated, check for rust, like you said, and strut towers. Look under the car thoroughly if you can. Think of what mods you plan on doing to the car and reflect those against the car. What I mean by that is look at your mods and see what you will actually have to do to the car to accomplish them. Refresh things, replace things, etc.. If you feel that these things would be too much for you to do then you might want to pass on the project. From every friend that has had a dsm there is always work to be done on them. It would definitely be a learning experience for you!

When you test drive it make sure that you get it up to a decent speed (above 60 MPH). I've test driven cars and then bought them only to get on the freeway and discover that the front end is shot out.
