Looking for some advice on buying a used motor from someone. The motor is a 6 bolt block with a 7 bolt head combo. Seller says the stock block has 120k miles, but the front balance shaft bearing is bad. Is this easily fixable? Should I have concerns about buying this? 120k miles a problem for a 6 bolt motor. Seller says compression is good. I would probably end up taking the oil pan off and inspecting before I bought just to verify, any thoughts?

If you buy a used motor from anyone for any car always rebuild! Or at the very least head gasket kit and main seals, which means machining. look inside and check for obvious internal damage. You can get a peek at the pistons through the plug holes, see if you can find a snake camera to stick in there.
How much are you getting it for? If it is relatively cheap might be worth it just to buy and build it.

Replacing a head gasket and main seals does not involve any machining.

It may not be required* however it is good practice to at least take the head to be cleaned and tested and surfaced of it needs it.
Now since the engine isn't in a vehicle getting the head and block machined and cylinders honed is a fantastic idea. Since it is already out.
That's my opinion.
I always take my head in every time now. I had a bad experience with my supra head gasket. Tested warping of the head and block and it was within service limits so I didn't bother... Bad idea... Was doing the head gasket again less than 6 months later.
Do it the first time and save yourself the risk of wasting a lot of money and time.

A lot of people believe in machining the head every time you remove it.

A lot of people also watched here comes honey boo boo. I wouldn't exactly call either one called for.

If you want to have it machined, so be it but if you're buying an unknown engine you have no idea what you're in for. Pull head? yes. Inspect closely? yes. Machine? I'd check for flatness and any visible damage and make the decision from there. Check the bearings while you're there. save you a headache for later. sometimes machining one surface flat without machining the other can cause more issues then it can solve. especially using an MLS gasket.

The seller is selling the complete package as 450$ as I would be picking it up. I actually do have a snake camera that captures HD video so that's something I would do. The better I inspect it the more I'll be benefitting myself.

Since the block and head aren't factory together I would do as the others have recommended and take it in for cleaning, inspection, and surfacing. This could benefit a better fit for both with a new gasket in my opinion. Could prevent any issues down the road with any modifications you may want to do. The price and snake option are both good as well! Good luck with the engine.
