Hello, I'm starting my car for the first time (somewhat), and I noticed that the oil pressure gauge maxes out after a few seconds then continues to bottom out and the dummy light comes on. At that point I got scared and turned the car off. So this is about a 15 second span. I have hooked up the dummy light and the oil filter housing.

I have turned the car on a few times before this (twice) for about 1-2 minutes and at that time I was not looking at the gauges but looking for leaks.

What do you think would be the reason for this? Maybe the gauge or sender is not working correctly? Thanks for any help.

Bad sensor, faulty wires, maybe? You really need to get an oil pressure gauge, the stock sensor is pretty much good for nothing.

If I'm not mistaken, when the two sensors are connected wrong or are grounded it will not function/stay at zero/or peg high. Correct me if I'm wrong though...

Yes that is what happens! Ask mw how I know I have the wrong (low pressure lightwire) on my stock presure sensor and ita pegged, but I have an aftermarket setup and thats how I gauge my pressure accurately.
