Hi everyone, I just bought my first DSM. Ive always been intrigued by them and just so happen come across one for cheap and decided Id take a shot on it. I built and owned a turbo lexus sc300, made 450 whp, but sold it about 5 years ago and have been out of the modding scene since. Im not really looking to make a fast car out of this thing, just something somewhat fun to work on and get it to be a decent ride. The previous owner was modding it to make it something fast but i have a feeling ill be turning it down a bit. It needs some work and i know ill be using the forum for its vast information. It has an inconsistent idle due to what sounds like a vacuum leak but runs fine while driving. I need to get that sorted out first and foremost. Mods are listed below, not sure how accurate but its just what ive seen and what the previous owner told me. I dont know where to start for tuning. like I said, Im not looking to build something fast, just something solid and fun. Any input what be greatly appreciated from you guys, looks like a good group here.

new timing belt/ all belts
new head gasket suposedly
factory LSD, dont know if thats something special
walbro 255
bigger injectors, maybe 560s, owner didnt know what size but i need to find out somehow
3" exhaust all the way back from the looks of it
stage 3 act clutch
fmic, 2 row maybe
greddy T3/TD04 turbo
greddy bov
evo 3 manifold
hks evc
apexi turbo timer
boost gauge
A/F gauge

Welcome to the site. There is a ton of knowledge here so you can find pretty much anything you're looking for.

I'd recommend also changing fluids (oil, transmission/transfer case/rear diff, etc.) so you know where you are at with those. Boost leak test the car to be sure no air leaks and fix them when found.

I'm a little confused about your turbo/manifold setup. You said there is an evo 3 manifold, but a greddy t3/td04 turbo? The evo manifold will have the Mitsubishi flange, not a t3 flange. Have any pictures to share? You'll also want to probably invest in a AFPR setup with the bigger fuel pump on the car as the stock on usually has trouble keeping up with a higher flowing fuel pump compared to stock.

Hoping I can find a shop around me that will do a smoke test. Has new engine oil and coolant, I know I want to tackle trans and all driveline fluids, I have 4x4 truck so I know its importance. Basic maintenance will be my first steps since it already has all these mods. Needs struts, etc. has more body roll than my 95 camry had.

I couldnt tell you the specifics of the manifold setup since Im not that well versed in these motors. I did get the stock manifold and another different manifold, as well as the stock turbo in the sale.

Would the AFPR be necessary even though Im not shooting for high numbers? I would seriously be happy with 200-250 whp. Im sure the 255 is probably even overkill for that.

My main concern is getting a good tune. The guy said I could tune it with the hks evc but I dont know how since from my understanding it doesnt control fuel. :idontknow:

I always recommend getting an AFPR when getting a 255 or above FP. You can do some searching here if you'd like to see what others say, but it's pretty common knowledge that it's a requirement with a 255 pump. There will always be people who say they don't have one and are running fine, but I would go with the tried and true consensus that has been shared for around 15+ years.

2nd mod I always like to recommend is ECMLink (1st is Boost and AF gauges, after maintenance), best mod you can get for your car IMO. It will work better for tuning compared to the hks evc.

So after doing a little research on here I checked and it looks like the turbo is a 14b based on the numbers on the unit 49178-01010 and it looks like it also has stock injectors, silver top.I'm doubting it has the upgraded fuel pump since it doesn't have the upgraded injectors. I'm hopine this is still good for about 250whp.

I'll try to get some pics up soon I have a few, it's in rough shape so nothing pretty to look at. It needs a new front bumper and the roof has been sanded down. I'm guessing I have to find an image host for the pictures.

An upgraded fuel pump is a pretty common mod so it's possible. However, since the guy didn't know what injectors were on the car I would say you can't trust anything about the car anymore.

Yeah kinda sucks. I don't know what to believe. I don't know if he BSed me or they guy he bought it from BSed him. Either way all the stuff I could actually see when I bought was legit. Dunno about the clutch now though. Oh well like I said I'm not looking to make alot of power plus I got it for cheap as shit so I'm still ok with it.
