I got the Jacks transmission from someone on the site here, not previously installed on a car, with a quaife front LSD and a welded center (which the shop who installed the trans rreplaced with a 4-spider). The trans has less than 200 miles on it, 4 autocross events on 245 Bridgestone RE-71R's and 4 events on 285 Hoosiers.

Last event this happened. I was hoping it was just going to be replace the axle and go, until my DSM Guru, Charles, told me what the plug is for. Any idea what would cause this, and is my front diff trashed? It looks like the speedo sensor broke off on the outside of the transmission.

I would start by removing the whole speedo sensor assembly. It is just the single bolt and a little coaxing with the o-ring on it. You could also inspect the gear oil in the trans as well. It doesn't take much to break the speedo sensor. Best case, somehow it got hit when the CV shaft failed.

what leads you to believe the diff is trashed?
I asked my goto DSM Whisperer and his opinion was something internal to the diff caused the speedo sensor to break off.
I didn't have the second picture to show him at the time, and I just talked to a DSM shop near me here in Quebec and they say the 2 holes in the second picture should have bolts in them. So the trans moved relative to the black bracket and that broke the sensor and probably caused the CV damage as well.
Gotta love the DSM community, someone always has an answer.

good grief didn't see that. that bracket is the trans mount. no wonder the speed sensor broke. who forgot to bolt that thing on

This is my guess. Or the bolts backed out.

Sam, my driverside cv joint exploded in a similar manner. f***ing nasty grease everywhere. And, this was a week after I replaced the passenger side axle due to a failing cv joint.

Yeah, I need to talk to the shop that did my motor install, they seem to be good guys, hopefully they will make it right.
So far all the things that have "gone wrong" since getting the car back have ended up being the best case scenarios, but they are starting to add up.

I’ve just been told those bolts were torqued and loctited in. Apparently I should have been checking those bolts after every race to make sure they aren’t backing out :idontknow:, I guess I need to invest in a borescope.

Does anyone know the specs or part numbers for those bolts?

Really? They backed out even after being loctited in? I've never seen those bolt backout before but then agian I dont get around to much autocross. I mainly do drag and canyon driving

I also find it really hard to believe these bolts would back out, especially if they were torqued correctly (which is also really hard because sockets won't fit & you have to use box wrenches). If memory serves me well I don't think you can get the bolt in the inside in or out without having the mount loose for wiggle room either.
