This is a dumb question but it's been bugging me for awhile now. I seem to not have a launch control in my car. My brother has an evo9 and his launch control is set at 5k rpm.

I was wondering if its my ecu that doesnt have it or something.

Am i not revving high enough?
*Highest i went up to is 7k, just to check it...

I am running the stock ecu still but i just want to know if i can do anything to set launch control or rev limiter.

Any help or advice will be most appreciated.

Thanks,
Kevin D.

No, please dont! I dont want to login tomorrow and read the thread, " blown motor, why didnt my rev limiter not work?" Well its simply because you dont have that opition on a stock 2g ecu. Get ecmlink or some similar type of tuning device!

Thank you for the best answer so far LOL

Im looking into DSMlink but it has like Eprom and Non-eprom versions...
How would i know what i have?

Ok time to throw in my 2 cents. From the looks of your profile you have no mods? Why would you want to have rev limit unless you like bouncing your car off the limiter so show off to the honda boys or something...But I am sure your motor will thank you later for doing that... Also does your brother have a flashed ecu? Also to note sure its safe to set it so you don't go over red line if your not paying attention, but if your stock T25 boost will fall off before you get there. You might want to look into dsmlink and getting it socketed. You can also use a evo ecu or flashable dsm ecu I belive 98-99 ecu's.Good luck on your setup.

If the ECU you have hasnt been swapped out for a 2g eprom or a 98/99 ecu...(which im guessing you havent done yourself..) It is neither.

Not to sound like a dick, but what would make you think because a race inspired highly designed Evo 9 has launch control...a fwd, 90s designed Eclipse would have it..?

If you want to have launch control you would have to get a eprom ecu or a 98-99 ecu for ecuflash. Do a little bit of searching to see which one you think you will like. Check the classifieds for the ecu your looking for. I'm going with dsmlink but that's because I already have a eprom ecu and it's nice having a forum to ask question if i can't get the tune right. good luck with what ever you do.

If I'm not mistaken, doesnt every basic car have a rev limiter?

He is looking for launch control, which a stock ECU doesn't have. And why, in anyone's right mind, would you try to launch a FWD at 7.5k for?

Seriously guys help him out and point him in the right direction rather than reply with some stupid comment telling him to rev it to redline!

Give the guy a break.. he asked a question and got an answer. This is called the newbie forum for a reason. Change the attitudes for a more "elite" part of the board.

Thank you

It was pointed out earlier in the thread, that the Eclipse's stock rev limiter is at 7500rpm.

Get an Ecu from a 98-99 Eclipse, buy the ceddy mods parts/program/cable, this is the cheapest and easiest way to tune, very easy. Also afer reading over your questions and answers, your not very knowledgable(like me) on tuning devices, so i think this is the best way to go if you want to do this your self, you are limited on what you can do if you come from a beginner level(like me).. and then while time passes by, you can set teh leve higher to where you will be more exposed to more options on tuning with thee Flashable ECU..

Good luck!!

The only answer you need bro is the stock ECU does NOT have "launch control" or anything special for that matter, just a rev limiter, unless its EPROM version which then gives you the OPTION for anything more. To get launch control you need to get a flashable ECU and/or a tuning device (the above mentioned options) that give you that option.

To the rest of you and your ignorant responses, like the earlier guy said, this is the NEWBIE forum (that link YOU clicked to find this thread), where people DON'T know and are looking for an answer, I GUARANTEE if you were stuck and needed answers/help, you'd want ANSWERS and not ignorant replies. Lay off the guy.

I have a problem like that, my GST will not rev over 5 grand. Does any one know what it is

If your car is mechanically sound, then you could possibly have some sort of tuning solution in your car. For example ecmlink normally has a 4500 rpm launch limit under 8mph (can be changed/modified but this is how they are configured out of the box). Time for you to do some digging. You can pull the ecu cover and give it a glance over...

Kids these days....think every turbo car ever made comes with launch control a loud bov and a front mount. Soo sad. Rev limiters and launch control are both relatively new innovations. Even in the mid 2000's most average cars didnt have rev limiters. And launch control was even rare'er then a rev limiter.
