So, long story short, I found a fantastic deal on a Talon TSI with AWD (manual, of course) I more or less want the vehicle for a weekend summer car. Always been a huge fan of DSM since my buddy owned a Laser RS 3 or 4 years ago. My issue is I'm looking at this car for 800 bucks, it's a great car that comes with a 4g63t 6 bolt. I'm looking at it tomorrow as he already warned me the rear end will need work due to rust. Now since I am out of practice with these vehicles is there anything -REALLY- major I should be worried about. I mean in the realm of a 4k cost, I know it needs a fuel pump as it's not getting fuel to the filter according to the owner, who is a mechanic I know, who refers work to me and me likewise to him. I mean, for 800 bucks is there anything that this car could have as the skull and crossbones to it's name, such as irreplaceable or super expensive parts.

Definitely going to need quite a list of items, as the owner has lost some parts, mostly plumbing for the radiator and air intake. Also going to need rear wheel bearings, and to do some sanding and painting on the sub frame.

While it wont start it sounds solid while cranking. The turbo has no play and spins freely, he said it was a 16b off of an evo. The body is in great shape except a few rusty bits here and there, though the rear end is a little more scabby than the front end. Appreciate the feed back, I figured it was a great deal and honestly thought it would look a lot uglier than it does.

Personally, if it isn't rotted I don't see how you can go wrong with an $800 TSi; especially if the motor/turbo are decent.

I personally wouldn't spend over $600, I got mine for $580 running strong, and my other 91 GSX (Auto) for $320, then my 90 TSi for $360. But, maybe I just got lucky. Anyways, if you are up for a project, do it.

In my area if a car starts and drives down the road it's a 500 dollar car, with the upgraded turbo I'm sure the 800 tag is good enough. Though yes, I am looking for a restoration project, I always liked the TSi's and the price is too good to pass up. :thumb:

Although if I offered him 600 he may not turn it down.:aha:

As complete as it is, $600 is cheap.

I used to buy 4 a year. Now they are hard to find, in at least the northern states. I can't find one local, in parts, for less than $1200. If that. Use to search craigslist and find 10-20 a week locally. Now, ones lucky to find 1 or 2 within 300 miles or more of Detroit.

I'm jumping on it then, if not for the whole car than at least for the engine and turbo.

$500 is about the going price for ANY sought after car around here. You get about $450 at the scrap yard. Hard to find anything any cheaper than that when people could just scrap them and get more. If you don't buy it, give me his number haha!

Also being in MI, I know your feeling. Found a decent 2G GST around December, guy wouldn't budge below $5k. It was riced out a bit with gold wheels and stickers all over it, but the body was solid, and mechanically he said it ran good. I passed it up, and now regret it because they are not the easiest to come by around here in decent shape.

I plan on buying it, I'll just have to rent a transporter to get it home.so far I know it needs a fuel pump, rear wheel bearings, brakes all the way around and some miscellaneous air intake hoses. I figure I'll have it close to done before September.:) And this is the first talon tsi I saw around my area under 3k.

The rims turbo and motor by themselves are worth more than 800 LOL

He accepted the 600 offer. Got the. Bos and title today, he also gave me something he was hiding in his garage. :D

Yeah that sounded like a good deal to me a car like that around here would go for anywhere from 500-1000 but if the motor has good compression and body is not rotted clean it up get it going! How long has it been sitting? Timing belt and fluids would be my first purchase

Its been 8 years, inside. I planned on, water pump, timing belt, head gasket spark plugs oil changes and filter, needs a new air filter assembly, drain and replace brake fluids and new brakes and tires all around.

I love the thread, my main goal is to get it started and running to start with, then the paint job and body work after. I figure with the 16b turbo it's probably a little higher than the 195 HP stock measure

Yeah, 16g auto correct fail. The shaft of the turbo has no movement and spins freely. Looking through the manual it couldn't hurt to check all the fluids, even the rear diff fluid.

She's home and in the garage ready to get it done, the fuel pump is definitely the cause of the no start, won't even activate with direct power connected to it. A win so far!

Super jealous sir! That's a steal for that price! Good look with the fixing up of your new project!

Rotten brake cables on front and rear, going to replace the whole system, while I'm underneath it I'm sanding and repainting the undercarriage.:thumb:

There was a video I watched on AMMO NYC youtube channel that showed him doing the same thing with a Wagner Auto Sprayer and Rustoleum under sealer. I would check into it and get tips. It helped me a lot!
