hello I'm very new to this form but I was wondering if I could get some answers on what is happing to my engine.
I have a 95 gs eclipse with 175745 miles. I just removed the oil pressure sender and replaced it with a oil pressure gauge. but I have seen on here that the normal oil pressure for a 420a is between 12-15 psi at idle. I have noticed my that my oil pressure is at 40-44 psi at idle warmed up. and at 3000 rpm its at 93 psi!!. dose anyone know why my oil pressure is this hi? the engine is all stock!.

Original engine, never rebuilt? original oil filter housing? Need to know what, if any engine work has been done. If it were a 4g63 I would guess it had a BS delete, but idk if they do that with the 420a's or if they even have balance shafts. Also, you said you replaced your PSU with a gauge, what exactly did you change? You put in both a gauge and the sending unit it came with right? In the location where the original gauge sending unit was? What kind of oil is in it too btw?

Those numbers do seem high. I typically hit 70 psi at that same port but much higher in the rpm range. Life gets down to 20ish psi but I also have a high flow oil pump.

Just for kicks, what brand in the gauge? Is it name brand/known to be accurate? If it's a no name piece of eBay junk chances are it's just wrong.

The engine is all stock and never been rebuilt, yes the 420 has a BS, the only thing I took out was the OPS and put in a mechanical oil pressure gauge, I'm running 10w-30 syn blend oil

your 420 havs a BS ( big sack), you gotta big bag of weed. Your 420a on the other hand, has no BS as in balance shaft

did you get a guage with an electric sending unit or did you get a mechanical oil pressure gauge?

its mechanical

Did you ever figure this out? I removed my OPSU and replaced it with a gauge and I’m clocking in at over 120psi on 3 different gauges. Fresh rebuild, 10w-30 synth blend. I’m going to run a Tee and tee off the gauge and OPSU so I can have both, I assume the OPSU tells the computer the psi, then in turn controls the oil pump. Just a theory, let me know if y’all figured this out:)

the stock sending unit is acutally a switch.

After running my ops teed with my mechanical gauge I can get idle pressure at 55psi. Little throttle movement will cause the gauge to shoot up quickly. No check engine light or dummy light
