So I BLT'd the car and it got to like 29psi and blew the coupler off but then there was a ton of oil in the turbo inlet. It has never done this before. Now every time I test I get oil. The weird thing is it will smoke on startup but when the oil is burnt of, no more smoke even in boost at 25psi. Anyone have any experience with this?

Sounds like seals but then it stops smoking after a couple minutes when the initial bit of oil is burnt off.

Could it be oil from your air compressor? Was it smoking before the boost leak test?
Nope Just after for a couple minutes. Its done this on the last 2 tests I did.
Oil in the air from your PCV? Gettin' lots of blow by from all dat boost?
Possibly, but it looks like its coming out of the turbo itself. After it stops smoking initially, it won't smoke in boost.

Are you testing the car at operating temperature?

Have you tried your test after the compressor housing to rule any oil coming from the valve cover?

No I've been doing it cold and never had an issue so I'm wondering what changed. I'll do it warm next time. I'm guessing the seals expand just enough to actually seal? How is it that it can come from the VC? because its fed off the head? I'll try that too. Car is apart rn again with the trans out.

If you see a sealing "piston ring" on a turbo it is open ended, it will leak oil through it if it isnt spinning.

Could be oil coming up your drain line from the compression, hows your crank case ventilation setup?
So why is this problem suddenly happening when it didnt before? What do you mean piston ring?

Thats possible its stock PCV with a Kynar check valve inline with the stock PCV valve.

Is this the first time dong the BLT cold? Piston ring meaning the seal rings that clip to the turbine shaft on both sides. They should be offset like piston rings on a motor if the openings are in line with eachother it will leak when cold/not spinning when given pressure. This may not happen everytime too @JusMX141 should be able to give more info then me ive only rebuilt a few turbos, hes done probably hundreds and hundreds more

I've done probably 12 or so tests before this cold. I was just going through everything like I normally do and then poof....... oil. But now its happened on the last 3 tests after this first time.

I'd try to bypass the turbo and BLT from there.. Could be seals in the turbo. You could disconnect the oil lines from the turbo, drain it and test and see if you still get oil. But I don't see how else you can get oil in there without a turbo oil leak.. It can't come from anywhere else around there.
