It appears that the 6 bolt oil strainer is no longer available. Part # MD113024. So what are you 6 bolt guys doing? Are the 1G 7 bolt strainers a compatible replacement, and if not, how are you cleaning the 6 bolt strainers out? The the actual tube protruding into the bowl part of the strainer, it makes it impossible to to just spray carb cleaner through the strainer and wash everything out of the other end of the tube since all the metal shavings and whatever other cruddy particles there may be are just going to get trapped at the base of the tube and not be able to actually make it into the tube itself.

I was faced with the same issue. I just used a 2g pickup. It's working great so far.

My current 6-bolt rebuild for the Laser is utilizing a 2g oil pick-up tube as well.

What are the actual differences physically between the 1g and 2g?

It is very important to ensure the oil pan is NOT dented or pushed in as the new pick-up will be slightly lower. 95-99 7-bolt (left), 6-bolt (right)

ohh wow, that is quite a dif. thanks for the pic. and how about the 1g 7 bolt pickups? Are they different than the 2 above?

Yes, the 1g 7-bolt oil pick-up is different than the 2g. Here are the two:

Left: 1g 7-bolt Right: 2g 7-bolt

are the actual lengths the same between the 2 7 bolts? If so, then obviously the 2g is the better choice since it doesn't have the "leg" that would otherwise be cut off when using ARP studs.

Im building a 6 bolt VR4 engine for my Lancer GSR (different cars over here in Aus), and I'm going to be using a Moroso race sump, was planning on getting a six bolt pickup, but... Anyone know if the 7 bolt pickup will work?
I have an old 6 bolt one but Id prefer new parts (engine is undergoing a full rebuild)

the 2g 7 bolt strainer works in a 6 bolt just fine. like 2gmitsueclipse said your pan CANT be dented because it sits lower then the 6 bolt does.
