I'm going to be replacing mine shortly...just wondering if I should stick with the K&N or is something like the HKS really worth the money?

Bringing this thread back because I wanted to know if Spectre is definitely not recommended or not. Since K+N is $55 now and I don't want to spend that much but would like something better than my paper filter. Just seen Spectre on Advance Auto site and other than this thread I've never heard anything about them before. Btw not running over 14lbs boost.

ive tried.. k&n.. Spectre.. and AEM dry flow
i felt no gains or anything. except the spectre made a "louder sucking" noise when on the gas.
so id say Spectre =D

Chooses a filter based on the "sucking" noise. hence the reason DSM's get a rep for bad reliability. And no, your not gonna "feel" any difference between filters, but the blades on the compressor wheel sure will.

IMHO it really doesn't matter. Its about what holds up better. Most of these filters are just cotton or synthetic gauze encased in wire mesh. Although they all claim to be reusable, I just throw em out after they start looking bad. My K&N looked like a smashed turd when I got sick of looking at it. I used an eBay filter for over a year and it held up remarkably well. I recently just put a spectre filter on because I couldn't find another all black filter, I had $20 in speed perks to cash in, and another k&n costs twice as much ($40 at walmart, btw) I don't know what fancy cap they're talking about, and it definitely doesn't sound any different than any other filter. Mine is the plastic shell design, like a knock off k&n; the one your looking at is another knock off k&n style. You can buy the genuine K&N chrome style from their website for like $27 shipped.
