So I just need some advice and hoping I can get some good ideas! So here's the story; One of my coworkers was having problems with his 97 gst spyder so he took it to some car mechanic and they said his block was cracked and it was making a knocking noise and they also said that the knocking noise was coming from his pulley. They told him is engine was blown so he was going to just sell it to picknpull but I couldn't just let another dsm go to its grave so I bought the car! Now I've always owned 1g dsms I've always loved the body style and the motors are better. That's just my opinion. But anyway I brought it home and the motor idled fine and revved fine but while driving it I noticed that the turbo was making a terrible noise whenever it would start to spool. I pulled off the ic piping and found a lot of oil with metal shavings in it. One of the fins on the turbo completely broke off and there was shaft play like no other! So I pulled off the tb elbow and there was shavings in the intake manifold. I took off the valve cover and found a little bit in there also. I have yet to pull the oil pan but I just wanted someone else's opinion if I should try to just flush out the shavings or should I completely tear down the block and redo all the bearings and get the block hot tanked and tested.

My recommendation is to drop the oil pan and go from there You will gather a lot more about what's going on by examining the contents of what's in the bottom of the pan. Post your findings and we all can put our heads together to determine what you need to do from then onward.

Well eventually your oil pump will stop working and there goes the entire engine along with parts you could salvage. Trust me I know.

These motors are getting hard to find. It use to be you could get a good job 6 bolt cyclone for 750.00 now it's more like 1700.00 and that's without the Transmission. It you do tear it down build what you have you save a ton.

Thanks for all of your responses I've been real busy with work this week. Hopefully I will have more information this weekend! Stay tuned

If the turbo is that messed up, that tells me you had damage in your engine first, then the trash went through the bearings in the turbo.
Tear down your engine, get it all cleaned up and rebuilt, rebuild the turbo, and take care of it all.

So I pulled the oil pan last night and I found a little chink of brass and what looked like maybe Brissels from a brush or something in my oil pick up tube. :idontknow: I cut the oil filter in half and found even more Brissels in there. The oil was super metallic like it almost looked like super old gear oil. I'm not going to take any chances on flushing it out I'm just going to tear it down and rebuild it:D

Thanks for the update. The engine will need to come out and built up to suit your dsm desires! Go ahead and start a new thread labeled build thread with your intentions and we will follow and help alone the way! sorry this happen to you but hang in
