Just wanted to post vouching for redline mt90. I've been working towards getting the DSM how I want it and catching up on maintenance, etc. Just swapped out some old Pennzoil synchromesh out for Redline mt90 this afternoon. I wasn't having shifting issues except for being locked out of 3rd at high rpms if I wasn't shifting perfectly and some occassional notchiness when downshifting. The main issue I noticed was a terribly noisy bearing in neutral that went away when the clutch was depressed. (throw-out bearing possibly?)
This MT90 Cured the bearing noise and the transmission shifts like butter. For anyone on the fence about making the 50 dollar investment, I would definitely recommend it :applause: great stuff...

It's just a synthetic 80w90. It works ok for lower hp cars. Welcome to the forum. If you do a little bit of reading you will see that we have been using MT90 for lower power cars for about 15 years.

Gear oil doesn't change a throwout bearing noise. It is completely unrelated to that.

Sounds like you had input shaft bearing noise not throw out bearing noise. Completely different component.

Thanks for the welcome! And that's a good point, it has been discussed quite a bit. Thought it may be beneficial here in the newbie section for beginners like myself to see since there are also several posts with others recommending diaqueen or even synchromesh.
Must have been something else aside from the TOB then. Not sure what would do that that sees fluid, all I know is the oil fixed it or at least masked the underlying problem.

A lot of us run MT90. I haven't noticed any difference between MT90 and my previous gear oil, it still shifts the same in my near stock HP car. A lot of the effects people notice are probably either just placebos or due to the fact that the oil has never been changed.

Take some time to properly adjust your clutch pedal if you haven't already.

MT90 is excellent. I use it as well. Every season I drain my transmission and it's super clean even after many grinds and mistakes it still shifts like butter. I also wonder what other people use in their stock transmissions for "high hp" cars. They can't really handle much more than 400whp so what's high hp?

OP also think about draining your transfer case and rear end and use Redlines lightweight shock proof oil. It's great stuff.

I purchased my car and the guy I got it from gave me a full set of red line fluids for the Trans ,transfer, and rear end, and when I first tryed driving the car it was very hard to shift, and if you put it in neutral and let the clutch out it was very hard to get it to go back into gear. But after changing the fluid out to the red line mt90 it shifts great now. I don't know what was in it before but it's smooth now. And what ever was in the rear end was the weirdest stuff I ever saw, it was red and looked like strawberry milkshake. But since the red line swap all well.

The OP lists a FWD 2g in their profile. No transfer case or rear end fluids to be concerned with.

Here are some recommendations from popular vendors:

Oops didn't see that.

Teamrips website is so vague. What is the definition of "big power" and "high torque"? It also doesn't mention how much of a pain it is to use such thick fluid in a daily driver. I've been no where near stock power levels and have never had any gear failures running MT90. I'm obviously no transmission expert but from experience, 90% of street DSMs should look no further than MT90 or Diaqueen.

I have had all kinds of DSM / Starquest vehicles starting as early as 1992 ... all have been filled with factory Diaqueen as recommended. Stock hp to high hp and torque.

Jacks says it best,
"Please get away from the mentality that you must have some kind of aftermarket fluid in your trans! Use 100% Mits fluid mixed with nothing but more 100% Mits fluid. It works great as it is and will give you the best life and performance possible"
People run his trans/center/rear all the way up to some huge numbers ....

I've always used mt90, 157k on my awd tranny and i may get a notch in 3rd at 7500ish but that's it. If you can't get your hands on mitsu fluid it is an acceptable alternative.

Been using this in my W5M33-NRBE
Had lots of crunching when I first got the car. Swapped out the old fluid for some MT90 and shes been great for years!
Might be $150 a bottle but it's cheaper than a $5000 gearbox rebuild..

For the trans, I have found this stuff works even better. I went from Redline MT90 to this stuff and noticed a significant improvement on my fairly low mileage rebuilt Jacks Trans.

It's sold by the quart too, not just gallon.

Twicks. I never saw you answer the questions. What Fluids do you recommend front to back for a GSX running about 500+

Thanks,

Thanks,
Heavy shockproof in transfercase/rear diff and 75w140 in the trans.
