Ive been running this EIII16G turbo at like 32 lbs/min or something and then the talon started making this supercharger noise. Pulled the intake off and found that the compressor blades are just torn up and now its got some in out/up down shaft play when there wasnt really wasnt any before. How do u think ive done this? Ive avoided driving it until today because the dd needed a thermostat - i should continue doing this right? Oh and i took off the IC to see if parts of the blades went in there and it was clean as far as I saw. Any other advice for me in this situation?

The compressor wheel made contact with the housing because of the shaft play. The shaft play likely developed from worn/damaged bearings:

  • oil contamination
  • lack of lubrication
  • unbalanced CHRA/poor assembly

Well thats probably an ebay by the third bolt hole for mounting on the waste gate actuator, but I have seen rebuilt authentic ones with the generic looking actuators too. Either way it's garbage now

My advice is if you HAVE to drive it, don't get into boost. Replace the turbo immediately with a quality unit.

Rebuild or replace....that's your only option, unfortunately. The supercharger whine can be indicative of either a boost leak near the compressor cover or unbalance due to compressor damage...yours was the latter. Of course with that amount of damage it's impossible to know if the compressor damage came first which led to the shaft play, or vice-versa. A full inspection upon disassembly would tell the story.

At this point IF the turbine shaft isn't bent, continuing to drive the car could wreck the remaining usable parts should you decide to get it rebuilt.

Thank you for the input, this is why I love DSMtuners. I really appreciate it any input.

When I first noticed this damage; i thought it looked like it inhaled something. I assumed it was something from inside the original intake tube attached to the turbo (it is a mhi 16g Iactually checked the serial numbers again when it failed).

This all made me sad because I had a better intake tube years ago, but it needed a down-sizer and so I sold it. I wish I hadn't now...

The car has been parked; seething in the shadows since i made this post. Unfortunately; I have to drive the car today because my civic's battery took a shyte.

I'll park it again once grandpa is rolling and hopefully, I'll be able to contact FP soon.

Thanks again.

I have seen similar damage to compressors when idiots didn't run a air filter... Never seen chunks missing like that though just really chewed the hell up blades/fins.
