Hey all first post here. My son has recently purchased a 92' Talon AWD 5-sp turbo car. Of course I have been recruited to help him work on the car. I have never been involved in the "import" scene so I'm learning as we go. Here is the issue. When turning the car like in a slow U turn the inside rear wheel chirps / spins on the pavement. It's as if the rear diff is in full lock mode and not allowing the tires to spin independent of each other. The diff has a tag on it that says viscous LSD. Yes it has LSD but I still don't think it should function like this. I don't know if this is the norm for these cars or not. My son has posted on face book and is getting all sorts replies like that is normal, that year Talon has a welded rear diff. I don't think they welded diffs from the factory. We all know how many experts are on the internet..... I have tried to search for a similar issue but came up empty.

yes probably the center diff that has been welded. This is a common mod because the weak point in the awd dsm drivetrain is the center diff. it's cheaper to weld it instead of repair or change it when it break but it's harder on everything else in the drivetrain. There is a lot of threads on this site about that and some people like it welded and some don't.
