OK, I'm out of ideas. My car sounds like a Subaru WRX, it will not go anywhere. It will start up and idle, but if you drive it. It will stutter, back fire and die. I did all the research I can, and got nothing. I replace Power Trans and coil pack with used ebay dsm parts and still nothing. Cylinder 4 and 2 plugs pulled during idling and no sparks, pull 3 and 1 and engine lowers down.

Both coils were tested.

Coil 1: (mine) = primary= 0.000 Ohms and secondary = 12.5 and 12.6 kOhms
Coil 2: (ebay) = primary= 0.000 Ohms and secondary = 12.9 and 13.0 kOhms

Both power trans are working good during 1.5 volt test.

The manuals just state that if the reading are not within the specified value, replace the ignition coil, but the manual does not say if both values differ, replace..

So it does seems that I am within specs, I'm I right.

Thanks for any inputs.

If i was you i would give the dealer a call and tell them to fix it! If they were supposed to install new motor and head, they should give the car back in runnung condition. If they refuse to do any work or fix your problem you can take it to the bueru of automotive repair. I work at a dealership and i would reccomend u take it back and tell them they need to fix your problems for free.

True story...unfortunatly

The dealership always tells me that the stock NGK for our dsm comes pre-gapped or you don't have to gap it but then again, they might be wrong. These are the standard BPR6EKN that has 2 pieces around the electrode.

So I finally got my car back from the dealership. They told me nothing was wrong with it and said they spend to whole morning trying to figure out what the cause was. So they re-did my timing and said that the belt was too loose and also said that the spark plug wires were in wrong, then charge me $202 for the labor. But then again, I did turn my car back to 450's with stock ecu and standard plug wiring from Clinton's manual and was still running on 2 cylinders, so it just can't be that the plug wires were in wrong. They must of did something else to it to get it back running on all 4 cylinders and blame it on the sparkplug wires.

Now my car is running better, this time the vacuum ranges 18-19mm Hg prior to 14-15 when I first pick it up, so they have this fix also. :thumb:

So I can't tell you guys how it came back up on all 4 cylinders, but all I know is, this is how I should of got my car in the first place.

I want to know what they did,
Currently my car does the same thing intermittently, and at cruise my afr's are 10.3:1

It killed me buying one wideband ...LOL Well it wasnt that bad, but i wouldnt have bought 2 of them just to wire into my ecu. Then again maybe he knows something we dont.

Well this was a tease of a forum. I was hoping to figure out what's up with my n/t 420a talon. I had this issue for awhile, sounded like a Subaru upon start and within minutes it would go away. Eventually it got so bad that my car just wouldn't fire up anymore and left me stranded more than once. I still own this car and it's been parked for over a year sitting in storage since I purchased a 96 tsi talon that we just rebuilt. (My n/t was bone stock and had nothing done to it before it started acting up) I just assumed the head gasket was shot and have yet to look at it.

It could be a number of things. I wasn't aware it was the forums job to solve all your problems.

If it sounds like a WRX, then it is most likely running on 3 cylinders. Check/swap plugs, wires, coil pack, injectors, and i you really think it might be the head gasket, do a compression test. There are many many threads about similar issues.

Search. Search. and Search again. Word it a couple different ways and use google and then type site:dsmtuners.com and it'll tag anything relevant. It's helped me with so many issues when I knew I couldn't be the only one having them.

Well it is a n/t 420a. I'm in zero rush to figure that car out and I'm sure if we spent a day on it, we would figure it out. My tsi has enough issue to keep us busy all summer and then some, so when I crossed this forum and didn't see what actually fixed his car I was disappointed, that is all. Like I said at some point I will look into the broken car and consider fixing it but unless my husband wants something good on gas milage it shall stay parked.
