Hey guys i just got to pulling my 255 and ready to install the 450, in regards to wiring can you pin in the oem connector instead of chop and solder or butt connect?

I see you can actually remove the plugs with pins as well but how the hell? Lol

Ive also noticed the black rubber spacer the op said to chop in half wont have a seat pattern like the 450, what do we do there? Just sandwich it under the bracket?

And did you guys use or modify this black thingy? That locks the pump in?

Hope the pix help others

Anyone know where to get new pins?

Basically Kyle. I reused those pins and cutting them and opening it up where the pin holds the wire and used the new wiring. And I think I trimmed some of the new wiring to make it fit on the old pins so it can be a plug and play. Or another way is to cut and splice the old connector.

I did not use that black thing that does not fit over the nipple, but did use 2 o-rings (zero leaks)

The rubber grommet I just cut in half and sandwich the pump and bracket together. hope this helps.

I gotta give this pump some more love! Hit 62lbs/min last night on pump gas @ 30psi. This pump didnt blink. Over 90% IDCs on my 1000s. Side note: 62lbs is crazy fast!! FP must have been over 70psi, i had to mafcomp up near 8% in the higher hz so i think its my ebay fpr or my lines are becoming a factor. Who cares right now tho, this pump is fn awesome.

Let me ask are you saying you are around 620whp on pump gas? Just curious:hmm:

His airflow could be off LOL^

finished mine, chopped one nipple off cause it was too tall in tank. (Havent rechecked yet) did drill a second hole but couldnt use it due to the clearance in tank. So i used normal hole. Used one o ring one orange cap and the black top lock i bored out, the 450's nipple is 10.2xmm so i bord out using a 7/32 part on a step drill.

For the connection i went to a local electronics store and got a pack of molex pins (like for inside a PC)
And crimped them to fit snugly on the fuel pump connection

Pinned them in to the oem spot so it's plug and play now.

Also as far as getting the white plug out and drilling the pinches i did so in a manor that the plug still fits snugly in no JB WELD used.

Here is the pump in place with the black plastic lock.

Here is a pic of the plastic lock i bored and filed down. (File to fit)

I'll post an update after its installed again and running and that I'm sure there are no fuel leaks.

Also did the relief mod. And blew in inch inlet to so called "pressure test" and no air escaped there or at the pump.

Crossing my fingers everything works, if the modded molex pins dont work i could order these from jnz

If anyone wants to donate me one of those I'd appreciate it LOL.

Now it fits.

I'm guessing the High Pressure 450 pump doesn't need that pressure relief mod. Probably the reason the made the new revision? And does this pump HAVE to have the fittings on top to work with the stock lines??? I l plan to upgrade the lines, but don't wanna have to do it right now since my wallet is currently drained after ordering a $1k STM exhaust system, fuel mods, etc. etc.

Reviving this thread. I got my walbro 450 pump when it first came out like in 2012 or so I think (maybe 2013) but just never got to installing it. I think they have a newer version because my install kit doesn't come with some of the things some guys have.

Here's a pic of everything it came with

My question is, am I gonna need that weird black spacer thing?

Also, the wiring is what has me stumped the most.

Archer, did your pump come with the other wiring harness part? Mine only has the part that is connected to the pump. I'm not sure where that would plug into. I'm confused =(

Can anyone help out?

Do the wires that attach to the pump have a screw terminal that you can remove and use the wiring from the old pump?
I have made a lot of things "work", including my 255 that wasn't quite a drop right in replacement, but it's working fine. Wrapped it with a radiator hose for insulation and strapped that puppy to my hanger with 2 big hose clamps and went for a test cruise. Worked fine and still is, as it is in my 92 auto car.
I think your hanger will have a ground screw on it that you can use for the black wire and the red will just go to your power source. I don't think you will use the connector or the "black" thing on the bottom of the stock pump. My 02.
I had to chop off the "bell" on the pick up tube that normally our pumps slide up into, then I just hose clamped the hose to the pump and the modified pick up tube.

No marty they do not have that from what I am seeing buddy. From other articles I've read, you're supposed to use butt connectors for the wires. Was just hoping for clear pics so I can see exactly how people wired it

Will this cover not pop off to expose two screws??? I don't run a 450, I have a Stealth 340 so I haven't seen one up and personal is why I ask.

I kinda tried to pry it off a little bit but I was nervous as I did not want to mess anything up in case it is not supposed to be popped off. I'll have to look at the instructions or something. Sorry Marty :idontknow:

Did your pump not come with the other power/ground lead like in Walbro's picture?
That would make this easy to tap into the existing wiring. I see Walbro includes 2 butt connectors so they must think that is safe and will work fine.
Kyle's pictures and description are pretty good above your question, you might review it again.

I think the difference between Kyle's pictures and mine are the kits. I got the earliest 450 pump which is the universal one:

And his is this one:

Just saw your pic that you posted Marty, my question is whether I will need that connector that did not come with my pump?

I can't open the pictures here at work, but if it is universal, that is how my 255 came. Not a drop in, but universal. I made it work, but thought on it way to long and hard for the conclusion I came up with. Mine didn't fit in the "bell" so I had no other choice in my install.

I think I figured it out. Some people, like the OP did not have the other connector so he did use butt connectors and basically cut off the black/blue connector/harness thing and used the butt connectors on the black and red wires to connect them to the stock pump wires.

Yep and the black hose is for if you have to cut the bell off. That's how the 255 universal pump install went in.

Another question to bug anyone who may know:

Is it safe to use the butt connectors for the wiring of my fuel pump??

Yes that is actually the recommended method. Also if this is for a 2g, it is not really always a direct bolt in. For me it caused lean issues at high boost.

The o-rings more times than not do not seal properly for the feed tube. You have to drill out the feed tube and replace it with a bulkhead nipple fitting and use submersible fuel hose to seal it to the pump. This mod accompanied with the larger fuel sock caused clearance issues with the fuel pump hanger and the tank it sits in. So I had to then cut some of the nipples off the top of the pump and shorten the fuel hose to make it sit a bit higher.

I ended up having fuel issues and needed to upgrade my feed/return line as well to make it work right. Which then caused issues with not being able to control the fuel pressure. So I had to drill out the siphon on the fuel pump hanger to get that back to normal. I ended up using the stock feed line as the new return line. The adapter fitting that you need to do this is hard as hell to find.

Make sure you use the sock that comes with the 450 as well. It is larger and can affect fuel flow.

All of this information was for my 2g GSX. I also at this time rewired the fuel pump with a larger gauge wire as I was trying to diagnose issues that I was having with the car running lean.

Dude, thank you very much for the info! But dang :(
This is quite a let down because I planned to install it tomorrow and am very limited on tools..

Few questions, what part is the "fuel stock" you're referring to? I posted a pic of my kit and it only comes with some clamps, butt connectors, and a rubber hose.
The nipple you're referring to, is it the one that has the o-rings and inserts into that tube looking thing at the top?

And also, I've read it's always good to do the siphon mod so I was going to do that. I believe it's supposed to be drilled to a 1/8" hole.

Fuel pump is already rewired so at least that.

EDIT: Brain fart, don't answer the sick question LOL I know what it is
