Anyone have any experience with DC area shops? I have two engines that need some love and after that I'll need a full alignment.

The tuning shops that I've found from previous posts (Altered Atmosphere, Extreme Motorsports, and Ultimate Performance) all seem to be closed or at least their websites aren't up anymore. I'm calling MachV in the morning, but nothing on their website makes it look like they do engine work.

There is a place in the area of MachV if you are willing to drive a little further out. It's where I got my machine work done. Bring donuts.

I should've refreshed my webpage before posting. I just saw on MachV's website that they do alignments, tuning, and maintenance so that's probably where I'll start. Still not sure if they do engine work, but I'll call in the morning.

Mach V is wonderful, but typically they will not do work on DSMs. They make special exceptions for cars in good condition and/or if you are old well known customers. I get some work done there and Mike (the lead mechanic) and Dan (the owner) are absolutely fantastic to work with being very fair, honest, and knowledgeable. So if you can convince them to work on your car they are a great place to go. I haven't had them do any custom internal engine work, but they did install my current engine, have done various custom work over the many years, and is my go to place for a dyno.

The only other place I can recommend is RRT. They are a sponsor of my car and are hands down THE best place to get anything done whatsoever in the area. 100% honest in their billing as well, extremely knowledgeable in general, do great custom fabrication, and very reliable. They work on all levels of cars, from oem, to street tuned cars, to full on 24 hour enduro cars (I know they had supported Rolex cars in the past). I only hesitate to have them do your engine work since I don't know what it is exactly, and they don't specialize in DSMs so I can't really suggest for or against them on internal work. I outsource my engine work to Magnus Motorsports, and drivetrain to TMZ, but leave almost everything else I don't feel like handling (or can't like custom stuff) to them. Definitely a great place to get an alignment, but so is Mach V.

They are both in the Dulles area not far from each other.

Thanks, I'll call them tomorrow.

One car has an AEM EMS and won't start. Ran fine until the movers got it and hasn't started since. I've tested everything I can think of and it all look good accept the fuel injectors don't fire. I'm hoping they were disabled or something from the battery being dead for so long, but I don't know how to resolve that and haven't found the answer on AEM forums yet. Lucky me the version I have isn't supported anymore. That engine also had metal shavings in the last oil change. I want the engine inspected to figure out where the metal is coming from and if the engine is salvageable.

The other car I'd like to install DSM Link on and get tuned, but the engine needs to be rebuilt first. Bad compression in #1 and #4 cylinders.

Have tried reloading the firmware into your EMS? I referring to the fin file not the calibration file but reload this after.

Moore automotive in fairfax, or if you just need machine work, fairfax auto parts machine shop does very good work. Mach V are a holes, I called them about tuning my car in September and they treated me like crap, especially Dan the owner! By far the best tuner in dc area is Brad Brooks if you can get a hold of him.

I called ISP a few years ago about getting some work done on my first 1G and was told "We don't really do DSM work anymore." The reason cited was "They are usually poorly maintained, and hard to work on, with seized and broken bolts everywhere."

As for some of those shops you originally listed, the only one I can comment on for sure is Extreme Motorsports, which has been closed for years at this point.

I'll give him a call after trying to reload the firmware. I'll call ISP and MachV and see what they're like. Past experiences seem to be mixed for both. I've bought some stuff from JAM and MachV in the past with good experiences, but never paid attention to their location. It's pretty nice realizing so many shops are close to DC. Thanks for all the advice.

Call fairfax auto parts machine shop for engine work. It is in Merrifield, VA not far from you. Ask for Bob, he is the best. They have done lots of dsm builds, bob's son even has/had dsms in the past. They do great work, they don't charge too much, and he even go's out of his way to avoid sales tax sometimes. He said the feds already get enough from us and I agree. They also do all of Moore automotive machine work for all of the evos they work on there.
