Really I'm not surprised. It's the EPA's job to suck the fun out of everything while being completely ineffective at controlling polution. If racing contributed to even 1% of carbon emissions I might agree with them. But this will have almost 0 impact on the environment and drastically limits a massive social sport in the US.

But that's big government for you. High cost to tax payer and hurts more than helps citizens.

Look I enjoy clean air as much as the next guy but this is seriously pushing it. A lot of new cars now are so emissions regulated that they suck in dirty air and it actually comes out cleaner. Their focus should not be on a minuscule amount of people who choose to modify their cars rather, it should be on factory farming and agriculture increasing "greenhouse gases" and methane 10x the amount than the whole car population combined.

This should seriously be protested and petitioned. It has nothing to do with big government, we the people are the government. It's rather a select few people who have nothing better to do and who THINK they are doing good.

I don't think it'll affect that much. It's against the law to remove or tamper with emissions equipment on your car now. The only impact I think will be for vendors selling products that tamper with or defeat the emissions systems. Also if the law passed it won't go into effect until 2018, and it's not retro active so it'll never apply to dsm's

I haven't read the details of the law myself, but if I take the article's word for it, I think this legislation will seriously harm an entire industry to stamp out a very small amount of pollution. Some other things to consider:

-Industry being harmed is responsible for innovations that lead to more efficient engine designs (ironic)
-People won't stop modifying their cars, but they'll have to do it without the assistance of professionals. This would almost certainly result in MORE pollution as well as more blown engines/ unsafe vehicles/ warranty claims etc...
-The EPA sells carbon offset credit to coal powerplants
-The EPA is chasing dimes instead of dollars
-.... f*** the EPA on this particular issue
