Hello everyone. I had a 98 gst that I sold 8 yrs ago when I got married. Owned it for 6yrs Miss that car but the wife let me buy another one. I just picked up a 97 gst that is stock except a few small bolt ons. It has 145,000 miles on it but the motor is strong and the previous owners kept all receipts for everything oil changes to repairs. I am going to revive this car and first step is making sure the suspension and steering is up to streetable safe par. Especially since the last owner slammed the car 3" on unknown springs and autozone shocks.

So I was looking at replacing every front and rear control arms uppers- lowers- trailing arms and hub assembles- tie rods and all new bolts and hardware. I am buying the front knuckles as well due to I remember my last 2g axels froze in the hubs. This way I can band saw the knuckles and hub assembles if need be to free axels. I also am going to by Koni yellow struts and the Eibach Prokit 1.2" drop to replace the horrible set on there now.

Anyways to my question. I was also going to buy the Prothane Total kit and replace not all but some of the bushings to get some more stability. Especially the rear knuckle upper bushing since it is smashed at the moment.

What bushings out of the kit would you recommend to use? It will be a weekend fun driver only not a DD.

Also I'm using all oem parts for the control arms tie rods etc etc. With the Prothane kit- Konis struts and lowering Springs I'm looking at $3300.00. Cheapest I could find online for oem parts was $2440.00 Anyone got any ideas to save some cash on this revive?

And b4 anyone brings up spend money else where I'm also doing the timing belt with water pump and clutch during all this to refresh everything mechanical. Which puts me at $4300.00 . I forgot how expensive this hobby was. I haven't even touched looking for supporting mods for future turbo upgrade.

Thanks in advance

I would highly recommend to try and stay away from any "Ebay" steering and suspension parts if possible. I had a friend that put a set of front lower control arms on his car and after 2 weeks he went auto-crossing and snapped one in half.

Extremepsi has a front knuckle kit that has both lower control arms and the knuckle for about 130 per side.

I have been happy Moog Problem Solver alternative parts (sway links, tie rods, etc.) as many of them have zerk fittings to apply grease. These have held up quite well for three years of Rallycross, Autocross, and track day abuse. Rock auto is a great resource to find decent aftermarket parts for a decent price.

I would assume the best answer to the bushing kit would be "All of them."

If you want suspension suggestions, I may suggest going with Ground Control coil adapters instead of the Eibach kit. You will have adjustablility in ride height, and can change spring rates to suit your tastes at any time.

I planned to not use the ebay kits I have seen. Something not right to be able to buy the whole front end suspension parts for $200 shipped. Plus I am a firm OEM guy.

I am buying the front knuckles and control arms package deal already. Except I'm getting it for $87 each side. I looked at Rock Auto and a few other sites for there Moog Problem solvers but I can't find Moog rear suspension parts.

As for the Prothane kit I don't want to use the whole kit for fear of feeling like I'm in non suspension GO Cart. Just most effect pieces I would like to do.

I also looked at the Ground Control Kit and even though it's a great idea. I don't feel like taking my car to get multiple alignments every time I change settings on the coil setup. I have looked for springs with a better progression rate but none in the 1" to 1.2" drop. Plus I will be adding the 2005 Evo Enkei Rims so I can't drop it to low .

I was going to suggest the same thing Christoph. If your putting the money out, why not? I know its a little more out of pocket right now, but it sounds like you are looking to do a top notch job by changing everything. Save you some in the long run with a lot better brakes. I run the Outlander setup. Definitely an improvement, but not compared to Brembos.
