Ok guys simple question here I hope. Take a 1g eclipse 5 speed with the 4g63 n/a completely bone stock. Gut it, put a roll cage in it and set it on the dirt track. Take a 2g 5 speed with the 420a and do the same. Both completely stock. The 420a is 141hp vs the 4g63 135hp. One the dirt track both stock who wins??? And why???

1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSCompare Car0-60 mph 8.9 | Quarter mile 16.4

Looks like the 1G would win for some reason, prob lighter? it's hard to say, maybe the 4g63 is just a better motor, produces more hp on the low end.

I usually run the 4g63.. Good power for sure but this year I found a deal I can't pass on a 99. It's got the 420a. I don't wanna go out there and just go blowed away by a 4g63. I'm a front runner every year at either track so drivings not a problem. I just don't wanna lose out on a ton of speed so that's why I asked.

What about the totally different suspension between the 1g and 2g? I would think the 1g would be better for a budget. There is a lot less to maintain or repair. Only 2 front ball joints. Compared to all the arms and joints front and rear on the 2g.

And let's keep in mind that would be both cars running 2nd gear the whole race

88blazers right. The 1g suspension is stouter but not as agile as the 2g's. Plus the 1g is 200lb's lighter, and has 13 more ft.-lbs then the 420A's 130ft.-lbs.

Why don't you just pitch in the extra 1000 and get a turbo model, they're so cheap now days.

1G, all day long! 1G suspension originated in Galant VR4 rally car, it is designed for off road punishment! Ever notice how 2Gs made lousy rally cars? That is one of the reasons why. Now, I understand that rear suspension geometry on FWD is quite different from AWD, but still, front suspension, which carries 67-70% of DSM weight, is identical between FWD and AWD. 4G63 is also a much better engine... Though you probably will not be modding it much.

But on asphalt, 2G suspension is superior.

This one is a non-starter! Stick to your 1G platform!

Thanks for sharing that compilation video GRNDSM. Loved it. Maybe not exactly what the O.P. was looking for, but a really good way to show the potential of our awd's. Tear up those F-bodies in your little 4g63 powered monster box car, then include a dsm getting the best of you too. Good job bud.

That DSM is a much more powerful car, I really had no chance, especially on the outside.
I think I've seen a few of your races on youtube. Just the front end of your cars lime green right the rests black?

just for the record, I never understood the wopping 8.9 0-60 measure for 420a. Considering the 5 speed at least, if launched hard me and my friend got it to around 7. There's YouTube videos of stock n/a doing 7.2 or around there.

My RS has a rebuilt jasper head though with upgraded lifters and we launched it like badasses very soon after the engine got a head job. perhaps a stock head wouldn't be as fast.
