So I was getting sick of the bright orange on our 2G Taillights so I decided to do something about it. The black VHT tint is too over done and I stumbled across VHT RED tint and thought maybe it wouldn't look too bad. In my opinion they came out OK but they are a little too flat even after spraying a ton of gloss clear coat on them. Visibility is still great and I taped off the reverse lights. What do you guys think?

I'm a terrible photographer as these pictures probably don't do it justice. If anyone is curious here's some good steps on how you can do them.

1. Pull tailights off
2. Tape off lettering and outside plastic that you don't want to be painted. Use a drywall knife to get a perfect cut around edges.
3. CLEAN tailights with some windex or glass clean.
4. Spray VHT evenly. I did about 3-4 coats with about 15 minutes of wait time in between coats.
5. Clear coat evenly after at least an hour of final coat of VHT. You can use as much clear as you want. I used RUSTOLEUM gloss clear coat.
6. If you screw up, don't panic. Wait for everything to dry and use LACQUER thinner to restore everything back to normal. Be careful using this stuff. Wear latex gloves and apply GENTLY with paper towel. Don't rub it in too hard as this will haze and possible eat the plastic. If this happens use some rubbing compound to get back to a nice shine.

Looks OK, but I agree that it's not glossy enough. I wonder if taillight housing can be painted inside like headlights.

Thanks and I believe you can pull the lenses off but would probably be the same outcome. I just don't like black tint. Everyone does it on their pos trucks and dodge chargers but stock is just soo 90's with the orange.

Looks good.when I used paint cars I would take translucent red and mix it with clear coat that's the best way for red tent and keeping it glossy. Most body shops can do it.

Any of the night shades can be made glossy. You'll likely need to remove it and start over, but wet sanding between coats then using a buffer with some paint polishing compound will give it the luster you want.
