so i know theres GOT to be an answer out there. ive been trying to do some research for a future turbo, yet i havent contacted any sellers or found a thread giving a definite answer, and im looking for a ported 20g compressor cover to go on a td05h center cartridge.

i see alot of the kinugawa and other chinese compressor covers that say td05 and td06, just want to clarify if either will fit the CHRA.

if anyone needs other details of what the total turbo setup would consist of, i can divulge.

I used the 20g in many configurations. what wheels are you wanting to use and whats the setup and hp goals?

Just the guy I wanted to chime in

Been looking at a 6+6 extended tip billet KTS (turbolab?) 20g compressor, paired up to a 9 blade td05 turbine in a 12cm evo x twin scroll housing with a 3" anti surge housing. It would be using an X CHRA.

Looking for 400-425hp maybe more if it would allow, good mid and decent upper rpm. Mostly fun street/weekend warrior.

I've found some 2.0 Subaru guys using the same wheels and comp housing with a single scroll, hitting full boost around 3800 and putting down 390+ hp and ~360 tq. Figure with twin scroll, cyclone manifold and my fuel setup, I should be able to hit my goals with a good tune. The manofold will be tubular equal length primaries. I would probably be doing cams/gears at the same time as this turbo, contemplating kelford 272's or gsc s1/s2's.

I don't really want a crazy cam, like to keep it more mild for good midrange. I don't plan to rec over 7-7500 @ most.

Thanks guys!

If I had a td06 CHRA and wanted to spend the extra to machine the housing for a td06 wheel, I would just go for a holset and bypass it all.

I'm using the td05 stuff cuz I have most of it and will be putting it together myself, aside from a spin balance.

If I don't happen to hit 400hp, I'll be perfectly fine with it, just want a fun street turbo and seems most regular td05h setups can hit 400 with good tunes or e85. I figure twin scrolling will help that

Found a thread over on evom, basically the same combo I want to run, great results it seems. Here it is. Lo-and-behold, 94awdcoupe is in there :thumb:

I couldn't discerne if he was using a 3" cover (I suspect not as it was an evo and he ordered the turbo as a bolt on essentially)

No surge as far as he said, so I may just try a 3" non surge ported cover, and if it does surge, order a ported.

He basically did everything I would, including the vsr balance. But I believe I can get this turbo/manifold combo done for less than 1k, so for a turbo fitting my initial dsm wants with much faster spool than I wouldve thought, it looks like it should be a winner. Now I just need to get some other stuff done so I can start collecting parts.

the setup you want to run will work well. I see it no problem to make 380-420whp on 93/alky like I run. the first turbo I ran was pretty close to yours except with the 11 blade 6sl2 wheel. (would sell turbo if you want) it had 3 in cover non ported. the wastegate was custom fabbed and maybe open a bit soon. a stronger gate would make it spool even faster. but like is the turbo spooled FAST. like a small 16g on a 2.0. it had what I would call a hint of surge. the kind where you just learn to just go 80% throttle at 3500rpm for a few hundred rpm before you go 100%. at 3800rpm. the ported shroud will slow spool 150 rpm everywhere. I only recommend them if absolutely needed.
if you can get it done the 6sl2 is a much better choice. there was a guy on evom forums that built a 10blade 20g wheel on the stock td05 turbine. car made 380whp straight pump. he kept reading my posts and rebuilt the turbo with the 6sl2 turbine and no thers changes.. he sent me a PM thanking me with dyno graphs. the turbo spooled slightly faster and made 420whp.

Any particular reason you want to use the ported cover? Those typically rob compressor efficiency for surge protection that you may not even need depending what boost level you're running.

shouldnt be a issue as long as it's a 20g tdo5h cover. Only thing is it's eBay and you never know, Kinugawa stuff is supposed to be ok, our main man justin has used there parts tons.
I wouldn't say "tons"...but a handful of times, yes. :)

I was going to get it for safe measure, but I have a feeling the 9 blade turbine and twin scroll will combat that. I will get a down firing cover, and IF it surges I can pick up a ported cover.
By the time I buold this setup I plan to be on speed density so an intake change wouldn't be hard, and possibly a built motor, so no time really soon.

@94awdcoupe
You can pm me a price for your setup if u want. I would like to build mine, but might as well check out all options.
I actually have been looking at the 6sl2 turbine as well, it's a toss up right now. I may try the 9 blade td05 since I haven't seen alot of data for them, and if it doesn't work well I can swap out.

Thanks for the replies guys!
