Recently purchased my first 2G DSM. All the car needed was new brakes pads and rotors. Tried to remove the passenger side wheel and got no movement. I've kicked it, let PB blaster sit over night, tried the piece of wood with sledge hammer trick, loosened lug nuts and went driving turning the steering wheel to pop it loose and still have gotten nothing. I don't want to use heat because the wheel is alloy. Any suggestions?? Thanks..

Glad to see you haven't used heat. It's a bad idea. I know you said you've used a sledgehammer already in attempt to break it loose, but what exactly did you do? A good sledgehammer method is to jack the car up, place one lug nut on the wheel and rotate it to the top, get under get under the car with the BIGGEST hammer/sledgehammer you have and hit the BOTTOM of the tire. Do not hit the rim. Even if you're placing something over it.

Yeah@HeadsUp Panda I've tried that too. Hitting the bottom of the tire directly and also with a block of wood. To no avail.

Hit harder and rotate the wheel as you're hitting. It has to come off. You can hit the wheel, you just need a rubber sledge hammer and some patience. We did it all the time at a tire shop I used to work at. Make sure the car is secure on jackstands.

Another possibility to try: Loosen all the lug bolts/nuts about two turns, and lower vehicle back to ground. Then push on vehicle side to rock it back and forth (side to side). Using the vehicle weight and the side to side motion, the wheel will loosen from the hub, but because the lug bolts are still in place, the wheel can't fall off and cause damage.

I've done what rallye said on my 4runner after tearing through two rubber hammers and what seems like hours of trying. Loosened up the light nuts and moved the car forward a bit n it came off. Let the weight of the cars do the work. Good luck.

I haven't tried rocking the car back and fourth with a couple of the lug nuts loose, but like I said I did drive the car over a speed bump like 10 times with them loosened and I didn't hear anything. I purchased a deadblow hammer, I'm going to try and hit the rim on the inside with that and see if I can get any movement. I appreciate all you guys input.

This is aways a pain in the ass. Here in Alberta the winters rust eveything together. Here's what I do: Take a wheel off. Jack up the side thats stuck. Swing the wheel thats off with some momentum and give the stuck wheel a good couple bumps. With the weight of the wheel and enough momentum it should pop off.

^+1, tee, hee. I was just going to suggest that too! In any case if you hit the rim on the inside with any kind of hammer, put a 2x4 in-between or you will seriously risk bending the wheel - personal experience!

Try the rocking car side to side thing first (post 5), then swinging a spare wheel against it (preferably on the inside if possible) second, and hitting it with hammer and 2x4 last. And rotate the wheel 30 degrees between rocks/swings.

Will have to try the rocking of the car. That's a new one. Lol

If you still can't get it let me know, if its driveable I have a friend that runs a shop that's probably not too far from you that could take care of it.

Thank you I appreciate it. The only thing that's been holding me up is I don't have a garage and it's rained the past 4 days, so just waiting for a decent day to try again.

This should go without saying but once you get it off and the breaks done, don't just put it back on. LOL
Make sure to sand your hub and the part of the rim that goes over the hub. That'll make it easier next time.

Thanks. Yeah I've already done one side. It's just one wheel that I'm having the problem with. I sanded the hub down and put some anti-seize on it. Thanks..

anti-seize is great too. Good thing you're not changing it on the side of the road.
Lol. I know right. Never encountered a wheel this stubborn before. I'm starting to think that's the reason they where selling the car was because they couldn't get the wheel off the car to change the brakes.

You still don't have that off yet? If I were you and I've tried this long and hard to get a wheel off I think I'd go back to driving it with loose lugs but go HAM. As you know, if it's your right front then turn left. Turn so hard and fast that the tire starts to squeal. But then again I also tend to break things. Good luck. Keep putting the PB to it too.

Haven't had time to try in a while because of the rain, going to try today when I get off work. Don't want to keep trying with lug nuts off may snap a stud and then I will have a whole other problem..

As suggested, if driving the car hard with the lug nuts a bit loose doesn't loosen it up, then nothing will.

You may try using a gear puller.... You can rent the 7 ton puller at AutoZone it's about $130.oo. the reason I say 7 ton, you may need the bigger size to fit around everything.

If you are having this much trouble with it, perhaps you could take it to a tire shop to have a "tire rotation". Make sure you mark the trouble rim so you know it was changed. I am sure they will find a way to remove it.

Another thing to try would be to jack the car up and put it on some jackstands, and put a little heat to the hub so it's not directly exposed to the rim. A little heat does go a long way! And rinse and repeat with your dead blow. Little bits of heat at a time!

i had too tap on back side of wheel where it meets the hub flat and chezell till it poped off.tape all around the wheel.

If you have access to a large slide hammer you could get it off with that. All you do is run a eye bolt through a 2x4 with a nut and washer on the back on the block of wood. Put the eye bolt through a spoke on the back side of the wheel.Hook the slide hammer to the eye bolt from the outside of the wheel and work your way around the rim.I have pulled stubborn wheels and frame rails with a slide hammer it works!
