Can you run it without coolant lines? Yes.

Would I? No.

The write-up is informative, but I would make a cleaner setup. It would be more work to block everything off. I think the setup the author used would look a little tacky, even though it is simple. If you decide to still run without coolant lines, look into a turbo timer to reduce the possibility of coking. The other option is to just let the car idle a few minutes before shutting it off.

Im deleting mine, ive capped the ports on the turbo off and a new waterpipe will be bought and cut and weld over the coolant ports. Easily done and is safe to do so

Haven't had them to the 16G on my daily driver for two years and about 18,000 miles...turbo still boosts perfectly with no smoke or shaft play. This applies journal bearing turbos ONLY- ball bearing units absolutely require coolant due to the small amount of oil they pass.

This highly-debated topic has been going on for centuries; I don't see the reason to keep yet another thread open on the subject.

Summary- the keyboard warriors will all tell you the turbo will fail tomorrow if you don't use them, but the reality is I've yet to see a water-cooled journal bearing turbo fail in a way which could be related to overheating of the bearing cartridge due to the lack of coolant to the cartridge. They're in place to keep oil from coking due to heat soak from a hot shutdown by a driver who may not know anything about owning or driving a turbocharged vehicle....whether you want to keep them or lose them is personal preference.
