So, I ordered a DSM FP RED from FP's black Friday deals. I'm having a hard time getting a hold of them the last few days, and I'm assuming it's because of the holidays.

I'm looking for part numbers from both DSM Black and DSM Red (JB). The turbo I received says "BLACK" on the tag, but only "DSM" is engraved in the type section. I think they may have sent me a black instead of a red. I know I'm going to hear measure the compressor wheel, I'm trying to avoid taking anything apart in case I need to return it.

The part number on the turbo I received is: 49379-95030

here's a picture of my turbo's tag:

Thanks for any help!

They had a sale on a turbo called the old school red. The compressor is a cast 35r wheel that's bigger than a hta red or black. They probably had a stack of 35r compressors from selling their upgraded Garrett chra turbos over the years. Every hta 3582, 3586, dsm82, and dsm86 started out as the same Garrett 35r.

I purchased this turbo back in October 2012. Its comp wheel is a 61mm 82mm and the turbine wheel is 67mm 58mm.
FP didn't have to many of them in stock then. I think this is where the FP Black came from?

yeah I remember that run of reds right after I asked. those should have been labeled blacks. but I guess they though they would sell better as reds.

to the OP, the inlet on black would be 59mm. 55mm for a current red.

Thanks for the quick reply's guys, I appreciate it. I just recently purchased the Red, and it's advertised with a HTZ wheel upgrade. Here's right off their web page on the turbo's description:

Now updated to the new HTZ Aero

HTZ represents an increase of 5-7% in choke flow over the range of compressor sizes as well as an increase in maximum tip velocity giving you an even wider operating range for your turbocharger when pushing the limits of flow and choke flow for your turbocharger.

DSM JB Red
  • Compressor wheel - 76HTZ
  • Flow rating - 61LB per minute
  • CW Measurements - 54.8MM Inducer / 76MM Exducer
  • TW Measurements - 67.3MM Inducer / 58.8MM Exducer
  • Compressor Housing - 84MM Flow Advancement Port Cover
  • Turbine Housing - FP 8CM
  • CHRA - FP Journal Bearing
  • Oil Line - Not Included

The car is an auto, and I really think this turbo would perform grade for what I'm looking for. I had a feeling it was a black LOL damnit.

Thanks again, any other info would be awesome!

Well, I got an email back from FP and wanted to post this up on how to identify the compressor housing between a BLACK and RED. On the back of the compressor housing, there should be numbers engraved on it.

-BLACK will say .82-84
-RED will read .76-84

Here's a photo of a black for reference:

I'm at work so I haven't been able to correctly identify mine just yet, but I have a feeling it's a black.

-Anyway, wanted to share those ID numbers and where to find them for anyone that may need them in the future.
