Another Problem!?!?! This ones a bit serious. When I go into a left handed turn with anything above a low speed, when i turn the wheel the car almost goes straight on, like when you start hydroplaning then suddenly jerks left. i also get a weird sound coming from the front right of the car like a whining and grinding/rubbing noise. Also, when I went to tighten the lower ball joint on the passenger side, it tightened to a point then just spins the ball inside.

Any issue that pronounced should be pretty easy to spot with a visual inspection while tugging on various suspension components.

To keep the ball joint from spinning, place a floor jack under the control arm, and locate the lift pad directly under the ball joint. Jack up the car by the control arm. The weight of the car pressing down on the taper of the ball joint should be enough to keep it in place.

I was tightening it with the car on the ground. The threads were damaged. I'll be fixing tomorrow. My theory is The play is allowing the steering angle and geometry to change under load and is letting the brake dust shield scrape on something.

How did it get this bad? Regardless of what might be dragging or steering angle changes that car is not safe to drive. Looks like new ball joint. If that taper seat is messed up you might need a new spindle also.

The PO was an idiot, and I did not know that at the time. Live and learn I guess. It looks like just the threads are damaged so I am going to fix that and report back if there is a difference. It was fine before I did the head job, the axle was bad though so I replaced that.

Best bet is what gst with psi said

Jack up the front and have some one wiggle the wheels while you inspect the suspension
Trust me I went threw this with a bad bushing on my control arm you'll know right away

Best way to test/check is place a jack under the control arm in a safe spot. And jack it up till you can place a large pry bar under the tire. Then while you watch have someone pull up and down on the pry bar or use your hands. You will see the play and will be able to see if it's upper or lower. Or even possible the wheel bearing.
