Long story short, I got a real nice 1G with a notable amount of work done to it. Only problem is, the person I got it off, bought it from an impound auction. He literally had no idea what was done to the car. Didn't even know it had a stage 4 shep trans.

Anywho, I'm piecing together what is done to the car as time goes on. My only real problem, is I'd like to avoid tearing into the engine internals. I used my Flex-scope camera to look through the spark plug holes and all I could see is obvious carbon build up on the top of the piston, and I can tell they were some sort of gold/bronze color.(The rim of the piston still looks gold)

Should I just go with what I know and hope for the best, or would you recommend tearing in and figuring out full specs on the car. The only reason I'm even worried is for tuning purposes. I don't have the slightest clue of how to tune, and I do not know how crucial knowing whats in my block is for tuning, but I'm working baby steps and learning as I go.

I also, looked through the Intake manifold and could see a clear Port/Polish job! That's a plus as well!

Thanks

Just pull the oil pan. You can see the bottoms of the pistons and what kind of rods are in it from the bottom. Pull the valve cover to get a look at the cams and valvetrain. If it runs well, don't mess with it. You won't be able to guess what the CR is by looking at the pistons alone, but you might find out what brand they are to hopefully narrow it down. Just tune safely to start according to how-to videos and using widely used basemaps.

What turbo did it come with?

Sweet, I was planning on dropping the oil pan anyways! It has what I believe is a 20G Turbo, but it has the FP Logo on it. I asked FP on their facebook page, and they told me it looks like an old school FP Red.

I Crashed my ZX6R With 850 Miles, had fairing damage, lights, and some frame scratches. So I traded that for this 1G, ever since than I've just fallen in love with it. Full interior is mint, exterior is in mint condition. Car has been extremely well taken care of (That is before it sat for couple years)

Sweet deal! Deals like that don't happen often. Post back with mods when you find them out. Pretty nice that it already has a decent trans.

So taking the oil pan off seems like a pain in the ass, so I just used my borescope and stuck it through the oil drain bolt, and it has ARP Lowers, but was having trouble getting up into the rod to figure out what kind of rods I have. Would I be able to maybe differentiate what kind of piston is in there, soley by using a visual of the top of the piston?

Well if its got ARP main studs it "should" have had some machine work done. And if someone has enough money to throw a shep trans at the car, chances are its probably got some bottom work done. Wont know though until you pull the pan. Have some pics?

Pull the pan and look for logos on the pistons. If you have H-beam rods and good pistons, seal it back up and drive it, there won't be problems.

I might pull the pan some time, been tracing down an abundance of boost leaks lately. So glad this car is in good hands now! The previous owner had no way of appreciating this beauty! Was driving around without a filter on the oil catch can, so there's oil everywhere haha

There wont really wont be much of an issue regardless if he does or not. The numbers in my signiture vvv are on a stock bottom end 7 bolt eith unknown miles. Buddy of mine locally has been 10.0s on a stock 6 bolt. Really the crutial thing is the tune.
