hello everyone. I'm new to the site and didn't know what forum to post this in but I'm looking to purchase a automotive fire extinguisher for my 2G eclipse, I was wondering the best location for a mount and what brand to choose.

thanks. Nathaniel

I picked up mine from auto zone last year I believe. I have it mounted on the passenger side pillar area but after reading the above post I may move it closer to me so I can easily reach it while still strapped in.

Mine is a dd/ww and my extinguisher floats around in the back seat. With high oil pressure so close to red hot exhuast I feel its comfort for any emergency! (I have had one and no extinguisher) so get one at least.

I ask because there are those that want one for looks (beacause racecar), safety (street use with little cost), and those that need one for sanctioned racing events. Each choice would present itself with a different option. How many members would drop $200 (after shipping) on a proper fire extinguisher versus the $20 chrome one at the auto store?

Im all for the correct methods for using or owning one aswell but many years ago i came across a car crash and it was on fire a little bit! If i had even a small unit in the vehicle at the time i could have put it out and not only saved the car as it started as a small fire which means we would have had more time to pull the guy out of the car which means he may of had more of a chance to live then getting him out fast! Who knows!! But i say having one is always a good idea not just for your own saftey but for anyone else on the roads aswell, if can help!

Well, that depends on whether you get sued for the clean up if the wrong type of extinguisher was used. Unfortunately, this is how it goes. A typical A,B,C can be corrosive to metal when exposed to moisture (humidity included). Using a B,C would be better, just very messy. Some of the even better types were linked earlier.

I'm all for it. I hate fires of all kinds so I'll share my 2 cents on this. If you race the car they will look to make sure it's strapped correctly. For DD emergencies you want the ABC extinguisher which is the foamy stuff for oil based electrical fires. If you use the wrong extinguisher it may splash the fire everywhere.

Also the cheap little ones barely hold anything and typically don't have a gauge. I know from a friends mustang we blew thru 3 of them on a small gas leak engine fire before grabbing one from the house.
Also like anything pressurized its affected by the weather, so keep an eye on the gauge and make sure not to leave it in a desert with the windows up.

Last but not least weather you race or not, keep it strapped down. If you get into a wreck, now you have to worry about getting smacked upside the head.

I'm just looking for a good quality fire extinguisher that's easily assessable for emergency purpose's up to 150$ price range. I'm going to be sinking a lot of money in the car and wouldn't want it to go up in flames. aslo might come in handy in other situations.

We dont get sued like america does LOL its not as bad anyway, but if you use the foam that thats safe for all car fires as thats its main purpose! Or even a co2 would be good enough as firefighters use these aswell as foam
