I have a 96 Eclipse RS stock with a manual transmission. I'm only at 90k miles or so.

The shifter seems to go farther to get into the gears now, it seems off. This happened after putting it into gear with some mmph one a few months ago. It does NOT like to go into reverse I have to try 10 or so times before it will pop into gear. If I put the car into reverse and hold the shifter in reverse then start, it usually works every time. (I had plenty of time to learn this method). Also sometimes it doesn't want to go into 2nd I have to put the shifter into the position and wait a couple seconds before I let the clutch out.

Does anyone know what is wrong? Im having a hard time believing it's the synchros.

Thanks for any help guys.

I read somewhere on here before that if your shifter cable bushings are not in correctly or missing it can cause shifting issues. One more thing to double check.

Shifter cables could have stretched. Bushings would be good to check. Check the connections at the transmission and the shifter under the console. Does the shifter itself feel fine? Do the easy stuff first before getting elbow deep in the transmission.
