Hello everyone,

The valves bent from the T-belt breaking and so I had the head off. I Have 3G lifters I cleaned with diesel prior to installation. They were not pumped up and I oiled them up when I installed them. They seem to be ticking quite badly. The idiot oil light is screaming at me as well. I took off the oil cap and everything is nice and oily and I can see a film of oil on the cams. It seems I have flow but no pressure. I am overwhelmed with all I have going on right now so I am not sure how to proceed. If anyone has any guidance or insight on what to try I am all ears. My oil pressure sender is not working but that is the fault of the connector that slips on there. The turbo is still plumbed off the head as well. I cleaned and cranked down the HLA regulator to spec.

i know this sounds very stupid, but was the headgasket put on the right way? and did you do anything else other than pull the head?

So when did the timing belt break? What all did you do to the head? Replaced all or some valves? With what? What type of head gasket? Anything unusual with the timing belt replacement? Suspect seals, oil pump sprocket ok? Do you have a way to mechanically measure oil pressure? Did you have 3G lifters before this happened? How many miles were on the TB btw? It sucks that you're having all this happen, your an awesome contributing guy on this site.:hellyeah:

The idiot light switch had a bad connection, after fixing that, the light went out but still have lifter tick.

Stupid mistakes are made all the time, so that's valid. I made sure all ports lined up and the dowels aligned it properly.

The timing belt was oil soaked because the PO just left the oil cooler lines blasting oil everywhere and leaking. After fixing that it was fine but the oil had done its damage and made the belt deteriorate. It broke at idle in the parking lot of the store I was driving to LOL The crank sproket ate the teeth off the belt. There were supposedly only 8500 miles on the belt when it let go. Bent all 8 exhaust valves. I'm 4 miles from RRE so I bought swirl polished stainless nitrate coated valves from them. Had it decked 3 thou and new MLS head gasket. New Turbine housing, new IM gasket, new exhaust manifold gaskets. Cleaned and re-used lifers and rockers which didnt tick nearly as bad before. It was normal before, I wouldnt even say it had lifter tick. I have a gauge for oil pressure but not sure if I can hook it up to factory sender; its a glowshift unit (not my personal choice, came with the car). Thanks man I appreciate it, I love this forum everyone is actually helpful.

My thoughts as well. How long did you run it after you got it started?

It ran for probably 3 minutes total. First time doing this, It concerned me so I stopped. So should I just let it idle for 10 min and see what happens? Also do you know of a glowshift compatible sensor that will screw into the stock sensor location? I have the gauge but no clue what to do with it and my sender is bad.

That car is lucky to have you!
I'd shut it down too if it was making noise and the oil light wa on. If the oil problem is solved if just run it awhile as stated. Bogus is a brainiac regarding head work.
Bogus? I wish I could have Dale do the work LOL It was beat the HELL by the PO but was one clean machine when the guy before him owned it; his name is Yuri, real cool guy knows his DSMs. In the pics in my DSM profile the picture where the headlights have nightshade on them is when Yuri had it. I strive to get it back to the level of clean and I will.

Lifters will be loud until you get oil pressure up in the head, need to go do some highway driving at speed for a few miles and they'll quiet up.

If the idiot lights on make sure you didn't bust or loosen the connector on the front of the OFH.

Most of the aftermarket pressure sensors are 1/8" npt and the stock sending unit is 1/8" bspt. Many people use one of the spare 3/8" bspt ports for an aftermarket oil pressure source. This way you can retain the factory pressure gauge and dummy light. Just get a 1/8"npt-3/8"bspt adapter and screw it in! I could get a pic of my ofh if you'd like to see what the heck im talking about LOL

When I put my 3G lifters in during my head swap, I did not oil them up as I didn't know I needed to. I had lifter tick also not sure how long, as it may have been close to 10min. My buddy knew exactly what it was and told me it would go away, and it did.

I hope this is your case also best of wishes:thumb:

Happy turkey day y'all it's almost gobble gobble time

Yea I get what you're talking about but I want to see how it fits. That pic would be great thanks:D

Edit: wait wait wait wait...... is this all I need with an adapter http://www.glowshiftdirect.com/Replacement-Oil-Pressure-Sensor.aspx

How is the quality of that sensor? Anyone know if the glowshift gauge is compatible with other good sensors?

Here's how I have mine set up. The lower port is filtered oil so I use that for turbo oil feed. My sensor sticks out super far because its adapted from 1/8"npt-3/8"npt-3/8"bspt but i'm sure you could find a 1/8"npt-3/8"bspt adapter if you looked on line.

The factory sender is 3/8 bspt right?

Nope, the factory sending unit is 1/8" bspt and so is the oil pressure switch I believe. So if you wanted to use the sending unit location for your gloshift sensor you'd need a 1/8"npt-1/8"bspt adapter. The location i'm using is 3/8" bspt and comes from the factory with an alan plug.

My son has had problems with his adaptor off of his OFH so we both run remote senders by using a -3 or -4an line off the housing to the sending unit which is located up by our PS resevoir. He was running an adaptor like that but the vibrations from the engine cracked it and he lost all 5 qts of oil in a little more than a block so be aware that could happen. I don't want anyone to lose a motor because of it. Extreme PSI I believe carries the adaptor fitting from bspt. Just FYI.
