I bought a 95 TSI AWD auto with a blown trans a couple years ago. I rebuilt the transmission with an IPT rebuild kit as well as a restalled converter they did. My goal has been about 300 to 350 wheel horsepower. Since that time, I have been driving the car now and then and collecting parts for my first build. This is my first turbo car and I am just as interested in durability as I am making power. Here is what I have gathered up so far:
Rebuilt 7 bolt head, street port job done by Head Games in NJ. Kiggly HLA, 3g lifters, Ferrara SS valves, Map behive springs and EVO retainers. I have HKS 264's, EVO rockers and Fidanza cam gears.
L19 Head studs
VSRF front mount with GM MAFF.
Mishimoto 3 row X line radiator
Dual Flex-a-Lite fan setup
Evo 3 intake
1g throttle body / rebuilt/bored to 63mm
FP intake pipe
NGR BOV to atmosphere
Link Version 3 full
ID1000's
Walbro 255 / rewire kit
Aeromoto AFPR
O2 Dump with Tail 38mm MVR
3 inch exhaust / no cat
Gates Kevlar belts, new water pump, tensioner pulleys.
Fluid Amp dampener
FP exhaust manifold
Garrett Gt3071r
With the recent deal on the 68HTA, I am considering starting off with that instead of the 3071. If I go with the HTA, am I better off with stock cams? I would like to do something with the PCV system, but with changing almost everything except the short block at the same time it seems like too much at once. I am worried if I get something wrong, I won't know where to start looking. I'd like to do the job once the right way.
Any thoughts on how to go about it? Which turbo / cams? Am I missing something?
PS. I have read a lot and I feel like I have picked up the right parts for what I want to do. If I want to go bigger later on, I will buy a bigger turbo. I am more interested in keeping spool as low as possible for a fun street car. It isn't my daily and if the bottom end goes I plan on building a 2.4 long rod. I have seen a lot of threads "Just get a GT42R or your a pansy". I don't need to compensate for anything, so if you could keep that mentality to yourself, I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
