Nice, your really close now!

On the adj fpr we got this geneiss (knock off tomei), it actually has really good reviews and seems to be working well. Was $25

I showed my friend your car who actually owns this car and he wants to paint it the same blue, does look so good.

I have our car running and am about to update profile check it out

Interesting. Keep me updated on how it works out. Obviously I love the color on the FPR too. :p Also, he's got great taste! To save you some time, the paint code is B73. Paintscratch.com has really good stuff.

We're kinda in the same boat dude, except my toy is an electric blue 92 Talon tsi AWD 5spd rolling chassis I bought nearly 10yrs ago. Been kickin around a few names for it but haddn decided on one for sure yet.

I'm slowly gatherin up the rest of parts needed for the g4cst engine as well as suspension and other necessities. It can be a long slow ride, but well worth it in the end.

There's lotsa 'Stangs, 'Vettes, Camaros and even a Lambo locally that need to find out what a well built 2.4t in a 20+ yr old car can do :>P

Kudos to ya for all the great work and steady stream of updates!

To this day the built 2.4 is my absolute favorite for the street. I loved my built G4CS in Colorado.

Having built several boosted 2.4s for customers I'd say they are pretty sweet for a wicked street car.

My build list seems to get longer and more exotic as I go but I'm mappin out lotsa tricks I've yet to have seen implemented. It will def be one engine bay a typical DSMer will hafta do more than a few double takes when the hood is propped open :>)

Well, my knee has had fluid on it still, but the swelling is down and I've got good pain meds, so I suffered through it to work on the car a little more today because I'm tired of being stir crazy doing nothing and being a gimp. I didn't get much done though because after a few hours, my knee wouldn't let me put any weight on it anymore. :p Pictures!

Looks so good. I am in love with how that BOV looks stock like it came that way from the factory.

Pretty cool is I found out the previous owner installed a non-cruise control throttle cable. Hilarious part though was he had it installed wrong. It was pointing out from the firewall towards the driver...for some reason. Lol. So I fixed that little snag and routed it the proper way. :)

I love my regulator. It matches the bay so well and looks good. Probably not going to leave the AFPR mounted directly to the rail though, I was just test fitting/working on the return line/test fitting it.

But as of right now, it's around 90% complete. The total list of things to do are 1) Torque the TC-to-flex-plate bolts down 2) Bolt up the transfer case 3) Put the remaining couple bolts back on the bellhousing-to-block to finish mounting it 4) Put the accessory belts back on(including A/C!) 5) Fill it with fluids/connect the few remaining connectors :D and 5) Start it/drive it! It's getting close enough for me to start getting excited.

Very nice, you should post a video up of you starting it. I like to watch those videos. But that BOV does look kinda factory in their. Same with the regulator. Any who nice build man keep it up.

Definitely gonna do a start-up video. :D It's getting close too.

I got a late start to the day, and made up for it with some heavy lifting. It started out slow by replacing various clamps with brand new ones, tightening everything down, and then I got down to business. Got underneath Little Eagle, and tightened the TC bolts(with a metric ton of loctite. Lol), and then after that decided okay, the transfer case needs to go in TODAY. So, I hunted the bolts down only to discover the previous owner decided that he didn't need EVERY x-fer case bolt, and only had five. So I hopped on over to the Tractor Supply Store, and got the missing bolt. Perfect match, and a Grade 8.8 bolt instead of a 7. :D So I lifted the buiky SOB up on there, hooked up the DS to it, put it on the output shaft, torqued it all down, and the underside is mostly complete. Just need to bolt the down-pipe up(two bolts and a slip-fit clamp) and bolt in the A/C compressor(easier underneath it tbh) and the car will be able to sit on the ground!

At this point, the only things left to do are in its entirety 1) Bolt up the downpipe 2) Bolt up the A/C compressor, charge A/C system 3) Install stock crank pully and all belts 4) Fill trans and engine with fluids, check t-case for fluid level and fill as needed 5) connect remaining three connectors unplugged and then...finally...6) start/fix little small issues that'll pop up. :)

Today was a super productive day though. All the clamps are tightened, everything connected except a couple things, spark plugs and wires are installed in the proper order for a 2GB Cas using a 2GA ECU, and on top of that...I painted a few parts today! The CAS cover was terrible....see picture below.

Before Paint 2.jpg

Blech. This was after a wipe-down of wax/grease/oil remover so it's still a little wet, but it's rusty and patchy and ugly. At the same time I decided to paint my oil cap(because it's a cheapo autozone one and it also looks terrible, but no before picture of it) and paint my spark plug cover to match my silver and blue engine bay color them. The VC and timing cover are blue as are a few other things, so I really wanted to cut some of the blue with a mostly silver piece, so I decided on mostly silver with a blue stripe. :) I think it turned out well.

All in all I'm extremely pleased with how it turned out looking. The CAS cover looks a lot better, and I really think the spark plug cover was what it needed to cut some of the over-blue down. The engine bay will look even better once I go with a FMIC because you'll have that solid aluminum shiny pipe and a small hint of blue couplers to offset it. But hopefully in the next day or two, I'll be posting a start up video! And maybe even a first drive! :D Prayers and happy/well thoughts my way definitely appreciated. Thanks for all the kind words and the views/likes!

Definitely like the silver to offset the blue, makes it pop a lot more. Look in to getting some new bolts to rid the bay of rusty parts. A seller on ebay sells a 213 pc bolt kit for like $60, and I was very pleased on how much better it looks. Also pull that brake bracket and paint it!!! Overall great job, look foward to the start up

Are you planning on not running a lower timing cover?

Are you planning on not running a lower timing cover?

The 2G timing cover is two-piece design, three piece if you include the cam gear cover. I definitely plan to run one. The middle timing cover is like 2-3" tall so it's not very much exposed, but I have one in storage. I've just got to dig it out and clean it up before installing it. I think it may be broken in half...but either way, definitely plan to run one. May just buy one if I can get a deal.

But, mainly I just want to start it up, and put it in drive and see if the transmission is gonna go in gear or if I need to swap fluid pumps in the trans. Once I know if it goes into gear or not, I'll pop on the middle cover and throw on a new set of tires to make it road worthy.

Awesome man, she purrs so sweet!!! Congrats :thumb:

Beautiful man just pure goodness :thumb:

Thanks fellas. :) It's been a long road but I persevered! Little bit of an idle issue now due to the BISS being all the way turned in for whatever reason....and get this, the previous owner replaced the coils but installed them backwards...that took forever to figure out why it wasn't starting, but on advice from my dad I said screw it, and completely reversed the firing order. From 4123 like it called for stock, I did 3214. Fired up first time. -.- At least it got fully primed first! Lol.

That first start is a beautiful sound isnt it haha.

So beautiful. Especially after all the struggles and everything I overcame with this car. The roadblocks, the WRONG blocks(hehe), and what-not. I have been stressing for months because I fixed the auto trans...but I've never done anything that details and meticulous before, so I was worried to death I didn't do it right. Or that the converter would be too loose and I'd hate it, or any number of issues. But on that first start up, after the lifters primed and stopped ticking, and pulling out into the parking lot feeling it shift on its own...man that was a euphoric high. To know I fixed that shit by myself, no one to help, and I've never done anything that detailed was awesome. And I have two spare front pumps now!! Lol.

Thanks a lot for the kind words guys. It means a lot. There's a pinhole leak in the heater hose, the idle issue, and probably other various little nuances that'll need to be straightened out, but for the most part she's done. I'm afraid it's not going to be exciting for awhile until I take care of a few bills and get on my feet, and then the fun stuff will start rolling in. Another long rod 2.4 will be built, a billet 60mm turbo of some sorts will be ordered, a transmission will be built :), and then the fun begins! But for now...stock-ish 14B fun!

Finally got around to installing my glowshift blue digital boost gauge, and I couldn't resist taking a video of that, and how the car sounds on the inside with the windows up. Whoever built this exhaust deserves the highest of high fives because they did an incredible job. 3" mandrel bent all the way back, high flow cat, Magnaflow 3" in and out muffler that sounds amazing, and the downpipe is the best and easiest fitting downpipe I've ever seen.

Sorry for all the useless updates, I'm just so happy. I busted my butt on this car and have been through so many trials and tests, but I persevered. Love my 2G!

Took a sound clip today, and also made this video on purpose to catch how badly the engine is smoking. Let it sit and it'll smoke you out. Oil and sludge deposits all in the exhaust port and on top of the pistons. Gonna wait awhile and see if it "goes away" before I go from there. Over all though, it's not a 0 mile motor like what I paid for and was promised.

There doesn't appear to be any oil or coolant mixing, so it's not a BHG. It's blue-tinted, so it's definitely oil. Pretty sure it's valve-seals at the least. When the head has to be pulled, I'll probably clean the pistons too. But at least it sounds good! Lol.

Also, these are how the exhaust ports looked when I got the motor. Was told they "looked normal to him". You decide and tell me what you think. Video is in HD, so full-screen it.

More positive note. I've done a lot of diagnosing, and it's good news. The transmission has been stuck in 1st and 2nd. I tracked down and fixed the wire at the TCU for solenoid B, and it tried to still stick, but after putting it in neutral, and putting it back in drive a couple times, trans shifted perfectly. My diagnosis is either junk in the VB, warped clutch disks, or sticking solenoids. I've got a full rebuild kit with borg warner friction disks :) waiting to go in. The Translab TL175HP shift-kit is on the way, as is the digital trans temp gauge. The new proper flexplate is here, as is the OEM 2G auto pilot bushing brand new from extremePSI. :D

So soon as I get everything in, I'll be putting her up on the lift and giving the transmission a full rebuild like I should've done in the first place. But the car shifts, and drives, which is awesome. I've been putting more miles on the motor and just enjoying it tbh. More pictures will come when I rebuild the trans.

Well, after the transmission recently lost 2nd, I finally had it towed back up to my shop and pulled the transmission today. I am dog tired due to lack of sleep and don't trust myself to be meticulous because of how exhausted I am, but I do have a little bit of news.

Quite a bit of clutch material on the drain magnet, as well as in the fluid. Fluid itself has less than 200 miles on it, and looks burned. Has silver streak in it as well. No metal chunks or flakes though, just silvery and clutch material on the magnets. A major problem was the torque converter. I had to pry it off with a pry-bar and "walk" it off of the input shaft. They are not supposed to be that hard to come off, so I'm just going to assume the TC is crap and is the cause of the problem. I will still be rebuilding the entire transmission, but definitely gonna replace the TC too. Also, I compared the pilot bushing on the crank, with my brand new 2G OEM pilot bushing I got from ExtremePSI, and the one on the car is entirely too long. I'm thinking it pushed the TC too far onto the input shaft and "rurnt" it.

Stay tuned. :)

Balls deep in this transmission rebuild and hit a snag. The snap ring that holds the planetary cover isn't going in because the cover refuses to go all the way back for some reason. I gave up and gave myself a couple days to relax. Here's the mayhem. Installed the Translab shift kit completely, found out the solenoids were completely blocked by clutch material/sludge, and one screen was torn as a result. Definitely clutch material all in the VB and the front clutch was toast, as was the reverse clutches. Oodles of pictures to follow.

Damn dude, I hope you get it all worked out. I remember back when I was building 1813, I'd fix 1 thing and find 2 more broken by the time I got the car back together.

Did you get the motor sorted out, or is it still smoking?

Haha, that's the DSM/GVR4 lifestyle! But nah, honestly I'm taking my time to fix every single little mistake and hackjob the previous owner(s) neglected. I refuse to rush it and slap it together. I want this car to be a reliable car for as long as I own it, and I know it's possible because I've had it before. Just gotta be meticulous.

And the motor is still smoking, but once the transmission is fixed and I trust it, I'll slap a BogusSVO head on it and stop the smoking problem entirely. :D

Yeah, Bogus will get you up and running for sure.

Keep at it man, you'll get the bugs worked out.
