So far for me the AWD stuff has held up pretty good, I have a few comments on it when getting it from a dig.
1. Minimize weigh transfer, and try to keep the front tires hooked up. If you have a welded center diff and you let the front tires get loose, it's really really hard on the rear and transfer case.
2. Avoid a twin disc at all costs if you street drive the car. Also avoid any solid hub disc.
3. Avoid using a 2 step, and learn to drive the car out of the hole.
4. If your on slicks, twindisc, and a 2 step, a 4 spider cd will help save your tcase and rear end. The cross shaft in the CD will take quite a beating, and the unbreakable one is defiantly breakable.
5. If your on street tires you can pretty much get away with anything on a welded cd, as the tires never grab enough to hurt anything. I did break a couple rear axles and a tcase like this though, but they had a zillion hits on them.
I've had my best luck going back to the old school shep method of launching the car.
