Just received engine and put it in. started up setting ignition timing. On the adjustable light I've got the marks lined up to 5 degrees... however when I'm connected to link im at a stand still 14.1 even when I adjust the cas. What do you guys think????! I'm royally confused. Is it possible cas is 180 out? idk...

Moving the sensor synchs the engine and computer together. The computer makes all its calculations based on the cas being set 5* btdc.

The numbers link is giving you is the timing the ecu is aiming for. So, for example the cas is set 2* off, and the ecu is trying to hit 15* timing, the actual timing will be 17*.

Ground the timing connector, or set link to do it, then move the cas until spark advance is 5* with a timing light, and your set.

Moving the cas does nothing to what timing the ecu calls for from the timing table. Locking the ecu to demand 5* advance is what enables you to synch the sensor and ecu.

ya ive got it hit on the head with the light. however, when I'm in link if i move the cas radically nothing happens to the timing value, it sits at 14.1 I just did some clicking around on link double clicked in the stream went to sd table and clicked ok to the awareness pop-up and then the table showed up with another pop up that said cant find map sensor in log... i exited back into the stream and timing was at 5. I went to see if i could turn car off and repeat but nothing again still 14.1 I understand what you said and i agree with that making sense. I'm concerned because when cas is moved links values do not move... and that weird thing with me clicking resulted in a 5 value. what does it mean when closed loop value is at 1?

Why would link values move when you move the sensor? All the ecu does is either add, or subtract timing from the 5* it believes the cas to be set at. No matter where the cas is set, the ecu takes it for granted that it's set a 5*. So if you're in a load cell that calls for 10* that's what link will show. However, if the cas is set to 10* instead of five, when link shows 10* the timing light will show 15* even with link showing 10*.
