Hey Guys,

I've just found myself in the world of dsm's and since this is the first time I've had a buildworthy car that is not my daily driver, I'm intending on it being my first true build.

I've owned 420a car, several hondas, trucks, a svt focus, and a mazdaspeed3. I've not done much more than bolt ons, and a few bigger projects on my own, have helped several friends with most anything on their cars, and generally do all of my own repairs and maintenance. However, I am shooting for the 400 hp mark with the Eclipse, and have a parts list put together. Since this is going to be my first build, I'm glad to have a great resource for all the questions I'm sure I'll be asking. haha

I'm not sure if this is proper syntax or where it should go, but I figured I'd throw my parts list out, and see if anybody that happens across the post sees anything missing, or if they do/don't think I'll hit my goal with it.

Turbo: Holset HX35 or Evo316g, possibly one of the similar turbos from FP if I can afford it.
FMIC (not sure of brand or core dims. just able to support 400 hp)
Walbro 255
FIC 650cc injectors
ECM Link (Which I have soooo many questions about)
I don't believe I'll need a gm maf for 400 hp?
F.P. Regulator
Wideband (which i also have some questions about
manual boost controller
I suppose some sort of aftermarket intake would be required or just a filter on the turbo?

Also the car I have is mostly bone stock. It's a black 99gst 5 speed, and has just over 100,000 miles on it. I'll have some pics up before long. I'd like to get it painted before I try to show it off LOL. The only thing it has done to it is exhaust. I have been under it for oil changes, but have not noted a size or brand, I can't tell if they utilized the stock cat, or went with something else (Hi flo, test pipe) not sure about the down pipe, but it has stock exhaust manifold and it has both o2 sensors. Whether they both work, I'm not sure yet, as I have a p0420 code. But I assume I'll end up doing a straight pipe once I get all the parts together and swap the turbo.

I will probably continue on down the road and get a set of hks or BC 272 cams, and a better valvetrain as well as other bits and pieces.

Anyways, I'm glad to be a new member and I'm looking forward to all the help I'm sure I'll be receiving!

Thanks,
Damon

Welcome to the community.

Before you install any mods, make sure your maintenance is up to date.

A lot of times people mistake these cars as being unreliable when they didn't keep up with the maintenance.

The Holset will get you to your goal a lot easier than the 16g but you'll need bigger injectors than 650cc.

Link and a wideband would be the first "mods" I'd recommend doing, after you ensure that the maintenance is up to date.

By maintenance I mean:

1) Timing belt
2) Water pump
3) Spark plugs
4) Oil change
5) Anything else you feel might need changed such as tires or motor mounts.

And where are the pics?

Hey thanks for the reply! I've got a stack of receipts with the car when I bought it, and the timing belt serpentine belt water pump front struts and a whole slew of other pieces were just changed at about 80k. It has 100 on it now. I just put new ngk bpr6es in it a couple weeks ago and I've changed the oil with royal purple twice now. I've been reading up on the ecm link and coming from the simplicity of the cobb accessport on my mazda, dsm tuning is quite a bit more complicated but I think I have the gist of it and we'll be going that route soon. Bigger injectors for the holset was half expected, but what about the maf? Do you think with the mods listed as well as my goal, I'll be okay with the stock one, or will I need to do a gm maf?

Thanks for the help so far man! I appreciate it.

on my first build I had a S256 Borg Warner turbo and it made roughly 430 HP with a mitsu maf and 780cc injectors. I think if your going to go with dsm or ecm link with the full V3 version it's best to go the speed density route and just toss the maf
