Went to Milan yesterday to support a buddy who works for a performance valve spring company. They put on a track rental day for their employees and friends. Didn't really set out to do anything impressive, in fact I figured out we forgot the laptop once we got there. Ran multiple 11.3's, an 11.23 and an 11.18. Did manage another pass at 122 but the track had started to give way by the end and the last several passes spun on the launch. Inching closer to going quicker than the old chassis! Looking forward to a nice cool september night to really try to push it harder. This was on the 10kg front 8kg rear spring combo which seemed to work quite well, I had one run where it bounced due to my clutch work, otherwise it was very smooth.

Love it! Keep pushing it. I'm still slowly working on mine, trying to get it ready for some tuning and another visit to the track. Do any of you guys have a 91+ fuel rail you will get let go? I need it to clear the big TPS on my ported N/T throttle body.

Couldn't break the old barrier. One more pass probably would have gotten it, this was a 1.49 60' and the track was just bad. Street tires were tearing it up and it was busy so only 3 runs. 11.23, 11.18, and this one. Glad to see improvements but, I think this may be the limit. A better 60' will get it an 11.0 but I don't think there is a 10 in this current configuration. I'm going to do a compression test to see where it's at and I have a few things to try this year if I can get the track time. One of the changes might get it there, time will tell.

Shane, you are so close! Do what you can...max the effort! You can do it!

Not giving it up yet. I have a few things to try, might even get it out Friday. Compression test resulted in some low, misaligned numbers. Probably going to do a leakdown at some point but I'm fairly sure the head is the issue. A freshened head and maybe some different cams may be where I put my dollars for next year. But, I'd really like to try a bigger turbo next year as well. Either way, those things would help that effort as well.

11.047 @ 122.5!

Car did really well last night. Phil Beers sent me a surprise gift of a 14b rebuilt by Forced Performance with 10 degree turbine wheel clipping. We were both curious to see what it would do. Only other change to the car was a 4" intake with the velocity stack back on. I think the bigger intake helped a bit, ramming more air into the inlet and helping it make a little more boost easier. But, I do think the clipping helped the most. The old turbo made 22 psi at the current MBC level and this one immediately spiked to 27-28 psi on the first run. I turned it down and started making adjustments. I also lowered timing by five degrees, but remembering that I'd added 3 degrees the last time out without seeing any results on the slips. By the end of the night I settled the new turbo at a max spike of 23 pounds and I added 3 degrees of timing back in for peak timing at 22.5 degrees. The car gained with each addition of boost and timing and there may have been a bit more in it. AFR's with the E85 were around 11.9:1. That was another thing I noted I had to make some adjustments as the car went from the set 11.9:1 afr's on the first pass to 12.5:1. Definitely some more air getting in there.

This setup managed to fall to 17-18 psi at the shifts vs 15-16 on the old turbo. This was really apparent in 4th gear where the car felt like it pulled a bit harder.

I really wanted a 10 but the lanes were about to close so I didn't go around for another pass. There were three back to back 11.0 passes starting with 11.09, 11.07 and finally the 11.04. I even asked the guy at the booth if I'd gotten it and he just laughed and said SOOO CLOSE as he handed me my slip.

So results wise the clipped turbine wheel appeared to let me run more boost and actually make power where the old turbo didn't see any gains with more boost. I seemed to get better results from running more timing. And, it holds more boost into the higher rpms. Overall I'd say it's a win win and I have to thank Phil Beers for letting me test it out.

Gotta throw another set of thanks out to my wife and Tyler Hassing of Force Engineering. My birthday was the 22nd and I got a surprise set of Crane 264 cams! My wife set it up with Tyler as he thinks these are a much better option than the hks 264/272 cams I'm currently running. I'm hoping to get them in the car and will try to get one more outing this year!

Also interesting, the 11.04 was with a 1.50 60' time! I'm struggling with traction with these cool temperatures and I honestly may go back to the stiffer springs. Even though it seemed to bounce with them it got out of the hole quicker. I don't want to bench race but a mid to low 1.4 that I've cut in the past could have gotten me there!

At least you can put the car on the trailer knowing its got a 10 second pass in it. It's awesome to see you pushing it to the absolute max.

It sucks the cool temps were killing traction, because I'm sure they were helping on the flip side of the coin toward making more power. Luckily, it will only take one pass where all the variables are just right and you'll be in the 10s!

Are you using antilag and/or NLTS?

Using NLTS, not using antilag. I don't preload either, although it's something I'm interested to try eventually.
Car sits around 2330 with me in it.

I've got some options, keep pushing what it has right now or install the cams which I'm sure will net some gains. Problem with installing the cams is it's another full day of trying to dial the tune back in...

That's so awesome! Congrats Shane. The 10 is right around the corner! Crane cams are absolutely amazing. I ran them in my Evo and had the best luck with those over a couple of the other "big name" brands!!!

There can't be much left of it...2330 with him in it...that's gotta be somewhere in the 2150 range for the car. Not bad considering they start north of 3k lb for the AWD.

He'll get there...some better cams...tweak the tune, make a little more power, and get the 60' down...might even go close to 10.90!!!

I'm confident with a better 60' the car could have gotten a 10 second pass. In fact I was almost convinced that I should leave the cams alone and go back again on what it had. But, with so few opportunities left this year I decided to go for it. Shouldn't take too long to get the cams dialed in enough to make some good passes. I'd be happy if a slip read 10.999, but ultimately it would be nice to make it up one more notch on the 14b list. I'm not saying that is a possibility right now, but we'll keep working towards it!

Do you have another run planned in the next week or so now that the new cams are in? Are the HKS 264/272 the new cams or was that the old setup and you just haven't updated your profile yet?

Well it literally does not get any closer than that! Seriously flat 11, I bet you can't do that again! And if you can, then maybe you should start bracket racing.

Im guessing you never got that 10?
my end goal with my car (1980 colt awd) is to run 11.5 with as little money and performance parts as possible. i havent decided if im going to bother with ecmlink or not because thats about $900 cdn with our dollar not doing so well right now. my car weighed in 2020 lbs without me and 3/4 tank and 40 lbs worth of bumpers so it should be 2150-2200 race weight, maybe less. it has no weight reduction really, just a tiny car and everything was built with lightweight in mind. i dont think i need to upgrade the 14b to run 11.99 but i could be wrong. i dont expect to get a good 60 foot because im going to run 155/80/13 winter tires i do have an evo 3 lsd trans and a spooled rear diff.

Doing it cheap was how I started. Went 11s on the 14b for $1800 total. 10s on the 14b for $5500. 9s on the 16g for $10,500. It was never about a record for me. The records were just a serendipitous result.

those numbers are very similar to what joe bucci ran. if you are joe, i have read the entirety of project goodwill several times. very good stuff, amazing actually. i ran 11.8 5 years ago with a 20g and a 2600 lb awd colt, but it cost me about 6 grand. I honestly cant really say for sure what i have into my car, i buy sell trade parts so much and this one is mostly leftovers except the trans was 800 bucks. and it has a wideband, new clutch i bought used, this car has at least 2 grand into it so im definately not trying to beat your record. but i would be amazed to get 11s for 2 grand for sure. i think when people see this car they will assume its got 20 grand under the hood to make a pos go that fast
