So I had everything set up to pull my motor out this weekend. I thought my bf set thing's up with his dad so I can use his garage and cherry picker. Come to find out the day of prepping I can't use his garage. I think I have a blown head gasket or idk if it's a hose connected incorrectly. Either way I don't have the things I need to pull my motor or a place to park my car . I already got timing kit an radiator and awesome silicon coolant hoses . And a few other parts . Can I get inputs on if I should wait to do a rebuild put my extra block, crank shaft ect, in storage an save it for later and eventually get another head and pistons ect for a better build, an in the mean time just do the head gasket and replace the radiator and hoses ?! Please help I need to figure it out by tomorrow . Lol .

Oh wow that is sooooo simple !!!! Haha. You guys are amazing. And I will definitely keep you all updated . This helps so much . Let's hope it's bad and causing all this mix up !

One thing to keep in mind is that the radiator or cooling system may have a pinhole leak, so the PO may have loaded the radiator with Barrs stop leak.
That stuff will make your coolant look like a melted chocolate milk shake.

With thing's I seen that the PO did I probably wouldn't doubt it . Haha . The poor car has so many leak's and all the suspension need's to be replaced . Thank god I work at BuyAutoPart's cause I can get part's at cost . I'm going to slowly replace everything on my poor baby LOL .

If your pulling the oil cooler any way I'd just cut the center bolt/tube shorter and delete it, there always a pain in the ass at some point or another.

Just for future reference the specs don't really mean anything when it comes to compression, what matters is the deviation between your highest cylinder and lowest cylinder.

I try to keep it under 10% for average to moderate builds but you may want to go even lower if you are really going to push the motor.

Let's say you make 600hp to the wheels, that means you make atleast 700 at the crank. So a 10% difference means there is the potential to have a 70hp difference between two of your cylinders and the difference just gets worse the more power you make. Could be the difference between breaking stuff or not if you're pushing it to the limits.

Ofcourse do compression tests with the motor warmed up to operating temp, and depending on you battery you may get more consistent results if you hook up jumper cables during the test as well.

Service limits are there for stock vehicles only, Had this been a user with a modified engine (head work, pistons, so on) then I wouldn't of mentioned it. You can't compare a stock engine to a 600hp engine, the specs are going to be completely different, with much tighter tolerances.

HERE IS AN UPDATE SORRY FOR DELAY !!! I DIDN'T HAVE AN FREE TIME UNTIL LAST WEEK . So the oil filter housing was cracked and causing oil to get into the coolant . Luckily I found a decent priced housing and it should be here today I believe, then I'll be able to flush my system and change the hoses, t-stat, radiator, timing belt, gasket's and water pump yay me. But my motor is still good I did all the test you can think of on it . Should be up and running the of of the week. I'll let you all know and no thank you for pointing out the oil cooler issue I would of done a rebuild for no reason haha .

Kaytee I dont follow. You want to clean out your existing cooler? The one part you should replace is the cooler and I would go new. You cannot completely clean a used one. If there is any possibility of contamination ditch it. Your cooler is likely crushed and ruined.

Unless your autoxing the car why bother with the oil cooler. Those sandwich things are known problems.

I'd just delete it like said, ours doesnt have one.

I think its funny how many stalk this thread just to get a response cause your a chick LOL
but kudos to you for working on your car I wish I knew some women that did

good read

Basically, but it is nice to see that some girls still work on their cars, I work at a large salvage yard in upstate NY and there is ONE girl that shows up for supra parts, she has a turbo MKIII that is incredible, and she drives it everywhere and works on it herself, It's hard to find, so I appreciate it a bit more then I would if it was a guy driving it.

So .. ahhhhhhhhhh my car barley started it's smoking a lot . It's all of a sudden has an exhaust leak so it's making a loud chugging noise and when it stall's it is a pain in the ass to get started before the battery died . The catalytic is glowing red when it just idles . Um yeah what did u do wrong ?! I also have an aftermarket oil filter sandwich plate if that make's a difference . I need my car running now since some family emergency came up . Please assist :)

My cooler was crushed I did replace but something happened . Idk what went wrong LOL . And thank you I usually have my brother assist with it to make sure everything is good . But I don't usually trust mofo's working on my car .

Your catalytic converter might be clogged, does is smell like rotten eggs? Does it blow white or black smoke. If it's white which is my guess it might be your head gasket or antifreeze getting into the cylinders. I would find someone that is in your area that knows DSM's. Just search under the freelance area I'm sure someone can at least look or point you in the right way

Is smoking cause it's burning off the oil and what ever from when all the coolant hose's were taken off but it doesn't smell like rotten egg's or anything weird it smokes from engine bay and under car . If the wrong oil cooler was installed what exactly would happen ?!
My coolant light popped on also .

Seriously, just take that sandwich off and ditch the oil cooler. All its doing is adding extra problems to what sounds like you have a lot of.

Unbolt the exhaust before the cat and see if it helps the engine.

If your coolant lights on, add coolant.
