So when I drive my car in town it smells bad... I really don't think its an exhaust leak. I have no cat.

I've thought for a while that I may have a bad valve stem seal because of smoking on cold start. Could bad valve stem seals allowing oil to be burned and no cat be causing my smell??

I'm not exactly how it all works but hopefully its that simple. I plan on getting a head from Clearwater cylinder head soon.

Compression test and leak down test.

Also check for oil leaking possibly on the exhaust manifold and or downpipe. These oil leaks can be small coming from the valve cover but can come from other areas as well.

+1 to the above and look for oil around the cylinder head.

You could, you know, sort of describe the smell? Gas, sulfur, fishy, burning oil (I assume this since you mention valve seals.)
