Keep it chrome since the window trim and mirrors and emblems will be chrome. Since it is a late year body style bumper the black strip complements enough. That blue needs some chrome to go with it!!

hey man I got a VW 73 Karmenghia and I'm putimng in a 4g63 1G Im trying to find out how to get spark and injector pulse bu powering MPI relay or what I need to power and ground to get spark and paulse if you can give me a hand with this I woulsd be greatly appreciative my Phone number is 9803499583 tex or call my tk

I do this for a living, so for me it was somewhat easy. I looked at a wiring diagram for the engine, bought a harness, and ecu. The harness on the engine is the same that plugs into the ecu. All you need to do is trace the ground wires and power wires coming to the ecu and MPI relay. For me, there was an open fuse in my fuse box. I ran 16 gauge wire back to a splice box through a 25 amp blue fuse. The splice box was actually an old fusible link box that I replaced from a vw jetta/golf/bug/Passat etc that sits on top of the battery. I modified it to have one side to be hot and all times and one side to be hot in run. Then I took those wires and soldered them into the harness to power the ecu when it needed it (hot in run/hot at all times). However I did have problems cranking it just like youre explaining. My wire from the fuse box was hot in run but NOT hot in run AND start! Took me a while to figure this out. What I ended up doing was getting a relay to send power to the hot in run side of the splice box when it say a signal to the starter solenoid.

A relay has 5 pins, only 4 are needed. Pins 30 and 87 are your output wire. Pins 85 and 86 are your control wire. Here is how I wired it:
30: Hot at all times
87: Output to splice box
85: Signal spliced into start solenoid wire
86: Ground

That could be your issue, but get a wiring diagram, learn how to read it and trace it out. Find out where your powers are from the ignition switch and battery, splice it into the computer and make sure you have proper circuit protection!!! (fuses, circuit breakers, fusible links, etc!) You are basically rewiring the whole car and it will take some time to get it right and look pretty.

This thing is so baddass. Who would expect to get smoked by a turbo bug

I say do what you want to the bumper its your car. Personally I dont like chrome and would go black.

Good job congrats on the project

LOL, sorry guys I haven't been posting. Been super busy. Just bought a new car, 2016 Subaru wrx. Ive been fixing my 3000gt getting ready to sell it. But I will work on the vw soon. Itll be on the road late spring is my goal. Cool vw, what are your plans? Maybe we will see each other around being that we are both in WI :)

So far I am just putting body seals, trim, interior, etc. Nothing too exciting with it right now. I want to drive it in spring though, so it will be done.

I still have my white 95 3kgt, it is in storage. I am going to be selling it though come spring, I just had to put exhaust valves in cyl 6, one was cracked. The thing runs perfect now. It only needs tires!

Here is what Ive gotten done so far this winter.

Front lip installed. Finally got trunk adjusted, and cable ran for the hood release so it can be functional. That was tough. Need to figure something out with the headlight rings, I have two different kinds and they don't fit these crappy headlights. I also think it has something to do with the fiberglass fender.. Will have to leave it or make something work.

Running boards installed, also can see I painted the interior the outside color. I am not adding a headliner.

Haven't been on here in years because I haven't been able to work on my 1G, then couldn't remember my info and had to create a new account haha. Had to drop in and say you're doing an awesome job. I'm almost finished with a '74 Super Beetle project, myself.

Cool, any pictures :)?

YES! Good on ya. I'm a 3/S and DSM and VW and Datusn guy and more, all about custom swaps.
I'm currently getting ready to put a 4G63 in a 95 3000GT.
I'm most interested in your details of 4G63 motor to VW trans, bellhousing adapter/custom flywheel- what exactly did you do?

Kennedy Adapters has many adapters and flywheels for the VW trans.

Cool, any pictures :)?
Here's one when I picked it up. Working on getting one of it currently.

*edit*
Here we go.
