So I took my 98 GSX to the track for the first time a few weeks ago. I was on a stock auto parts store clutch, stock turbo, but was still expecting to get into the 14s. I was disappointed with steady mid 15s though. I will post my time slips below, and hopefully some of you can analyze what the issue is here.

Mods:

Extreme psi open intake, full 3" downpipe and exhaust, no cat, evo ix mr bypass valve, evo ix mr fuel pump, and running basic ceddymods flash.

I have a boost gauge and my boost has always maxed out right at 15 psi, it has never been an issue spooling up right around 2500-2800 rpms.

I had launch control originally set at 3700 rpms, but switched it to 4500 for the last 3 or 4 passes. Tire pressure may have been my downfall, since they were at 44 psi all around on dunlop direzza summer tires.

At the time, I had a leak right at my o2/dp connection since an o2 housing stud was broken. I just fixed it and the car definitely has a cleaner exhaust note, but I don't feel a huge performance change other than boost sometimes spiking to 17-18 psi if I hammer it in 2nd gear.

I seemed to also have some bad luck. I would either pull a great launch, and grind in 3rd or 4th gear, or I would have a bogged or jumpy launch and then bang all of the gears out perfectly.

It was about 85 degrees on this day as well.

Since then, I have upgraded my clutch and installed a fidanza lightweight flywheel, as well as changed all my drivetrain fluids. Lowered my tires to 36 psi too.

Don't feel bad man it can't do nothing but get better from here. I ran a best of 11.1 my first time running my car, which is fwd, my speed was 139mph. I found out today that my clutch is not holding the power , the pressure plate has hot spots all over it. What clutch are you running?

I was using a powertorque which is from Oreilly auto parts. I have since switched to an xtd stage 4 pp and dual friction disc mated with a fidanza 8lb flywheel.

Im guessing lowering tire pressure down to 32 or ao will improve my 60' a lot? I'll have to get back to the track again.

It's the grove of course your 60' isn't going to be good, its a glorified street haha, don't be dissapointed it takes practice, my buddy set up a procharger on his 392 charger, and he is only running stock times(its an auto too but is running low boost). It's going to take practice, also tire pressure seems kinda high so lower it and that may help some.

Has nothing to due with union grove.. I was able to bust a couple 1.6's on my street tires last time I was up there on my old clutch set up. But seat time is key! I've never really got to play around with an awd in stock form so I cant say how well they can launch but itll get better over time, just takes practice!

More of a joke about the grove. They've been doing a lot better about maintaining the facility in the last couple years. I love it because it's my home track but they could learn a lot from other tracks such as Joliet. Anyways good luck with lowering your 60ft!

Thank you for all of your replies and positive feedback! I am looking forward to improving my driving skill as well as the performance of my car.

I am replacing a knock sensor this week, and then taking another trip to the track (if weather permits). Looking to see improvement with my 60" times as well as more quickly executed shifts.

After that, I will finally be installing my turbo set up, which has taken me over 6 months to piece together.

@BoostinPerformance, thank you! Very reassuring to have you guys on my side. Plus, you guys are right in the neighborhood!
